more important qn: how to solve system data eating up so much storage? it's taking up ~40GB on my phone. from my googling it seems like a perennial problem and can only be solved by wiping and restoring backup. sibei annoying

Nowadays everything also need to download app

How much memory do u all used on apps these days?
I always buy phones with just 256gb, max i use maybe 80+ gb. I have cloud storage so I delete photos from WhatsApp from my phone. And cut down the backup size. And I clear my cloud storage once every 6 months to my HDD.

previously i always buy the biggest storage iphone. but this round i offloaded all my previous iphone photos to portable hardisk and keep a full iphone backup (2 separate backups) and bought the 256gb one instead.

i dun buy icloud+ and i only use itunes to backup to PC on external hardisk, now with 256gb iphone, the backup is significantly faster.

actually icloud storage expansion worth the investment if preserving up to date data is important to you. unless you back up daily?

I’m not very comfortable with cloud storage of whichever company, I don’t have sensitive photos but more of concern to me is if one day server down or corrupted then all gone and also downloading mass amount of data like photos will take super long if one day you want to keep everything locally.

i prefer to keep it locally also. it is not difficult to do full backup locally on PC or portable hardisk anyway, especially those devices that support usb 3.0 and above transfer speed, the backup is actually very fast.
