Do you intend to get married and start a family?

Do your parents have private medical insurance? Do they have CPF Life payout and/or other sources of retirement funds? Are they completely reliant on you? Do you have siblings who will chip in to take care of them?

How much do you have in savings now?

Depends on your personal lifestyle and spending habit. Some people can earn $10K per mth but save little or none while those earn $2k to $3K can save 50% of their pay. So it varies from person to person but general guideline is to save about 20% of your pay.

800 on myself. Everything included (tax, food, bills, insurance, transport, etc)

Fixed amount for parents every month. How much depends on ur family.

Save and/or invest the rest

i same situation as u. 30 no gf, parents old, heng heng still healthy

pure cash saving maybe 1k per month. really spend little cos NO GF, and all friends are married with kids. So weekend/weekday after work, either go out with parents or stay at home no life.

with NO GF and married friends, really no urge to buy new clothes, eat at restaurants, buy new shoes, new tech gadgets also no use. No one to show off to. No Car, maybe planning to BTO at 35.

Unless the law changes, you can only BTO "2 room" flats. It can be a little cramp.

This is my suggestion:

1. Open a DBS Multiplier account.
2. Get your salary credited into your DBS savings account.
3. Get a DBS/POSB credit card (e.g. POSB Everyday) and arrange to have some of your bills paid through that card
4. Open a POSB Invest-Saver account, setup a $100/month Regular Savings Plan into Nikko AM STI ETF
5. Leave 1 month worth of spending in your DBS Savings account, move everything into the Multiplier account

This should set you up with some basic savings at 2%/annum. Before you start investing, I would recommend saving until you have about 6 months worth of spending in case you lose your job. When you feel you are ready to start moving more of your income into investing, the easiest option would be to simply increase the RSP amount.

Depends on how much you want to save, and why you want to save so much money for. It's actually a reflection of your outlook in life, and therefore no right or wrong. One just get what is already in their hearts :s13:
