HOW RECOGNIZABLE WILL MY ENGINEERING DEGREE BE?

Hi guys,

I am now studying my third trimester of my first year in the Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering course at PSB academy under the University of Newcastle Australia. I am here to enquire on how recognizable will my degree be in the job market from 2020 onwards, which will be the year when I graduate? As well as the how are my chances of applying for a good internship.

My Math Lecturer tell us that this degree is more recognizable than NTU's engineering degree. However searching through the job applications now, many of them require a certain number of years of experience on the field, while only few stating that they accept fresh graduates . I am aware that employers mainly look at the internships you go through, but I doubt that 3 months of Internship will be enough for me to be qualified.

I am hoping especially for someone who went through the very same course and school to tell me about the reality of these enquiries.

I think your lecturer might be deluded... Definitely NTU degrees are more recognised than PEI or distance learning degrees.

in terms of recognition, distance learning deg like SIT-TUM/UON, psb-uon etc not recognise by PE Board, only nus ntu. thats the reason why i go aus take engineering instead



but that doesnt means you cant get good engineering job also. pe thing is not everything anyway.

Is it? i cannot study abroad therefore I decided to enroll into PSB academy. I was told by my friend who works in the Engineering sector that it is still possible to find a job despite the competition, but not so much for big Engineering companies. He also said that internship experience will be helpful, but not to a far extent.

O yes I was also hoping to know how your friend is doing in his/her media studies after she dropped out of PSB Engineering?

You definetly can find job if you're not picky about the pay. Don't expect to be paid in the same level as your friends from NUS or NTU..

For the record SIT-TUM confers campus blind degrees and is not a distance learning program. Even so, PE board is just one organizations, recognition in the private sector is independent of that.

It not totally independent when come to recognition in the private sector. Under BCA regulation, they needs graduate's degree to be recognized by PEB Sg but do not require them to be PE. So companies will hire local or overseas on-campus degree holders. Even if these companies hire you, you are not on par with their 'scheme' in term or wages and career advancement.


To add on, a lot of degree by distance learning mode are also campus blind degrees. End day, I believe TUM transcript will state 'campus of study' as SIT too!

Unlike curtin university that stated that Singapore is one of their campus, TUM did not state it. This mean that SIT is just partner institute like other private school like PSB, SIM, MDIS and etc. In this cause, SIT-TUM is actually a distance learning degree!

they are recognise by PE Board as a degree.
They are not accredited by PEB to go for PE.

Not seen the application form if they asked if degree completed in home country will one lie? they don't ask act blur.

anyway, TS all u have to do is know what u want to work as then all your prob solve already.

1) want be PE, then drop out go nus ntu engrg or oversea home campus. if dont want, just continue the course.

2) want be in media industry, then change course. OR stay on complete it do well and use it for entry to lcoal U postgrad in mass comm etc. i know 2nd upper psb uon engrg to ntu master engrg stand a very good chance already. not sure for mass comm.

I have to be honest that I have never seem a TUM transcript before but I have seem many on campus and distance learning degree which all will state which campus/private school you get your degree from unless there is only one campus and no partner institute for that university.

Then did TUM declared that SIT is one of their campus? If no mean this is not on campus and consider distance learning mode!
