How to boot with HDD failure detected?

Hi, my storage HDD has been detected to my failure and I plan to switch it, however I can't get my system to boot with the HDD connected and I need to remove the connection

Is there anyway to bypass the error and boot?

I'm asking cause I wanna have the old and new HDD connected and copy the files over

You can boot without the HDD then connect the HDD externally via a SATA-to-USB adapter.

Alternatively, if your BIOS supports hot-plugging, you can boot without the HDD and then connect the SATA and power cables to the HDD.

What do you put in the storage HDD? Your documents/desktop folders?

Another way would be to boot to safe mode and launch command prompt:

diskpart
List disk
Select disk (1, 0 or whichever is the storage disk)
Offline disk

once you boot into windows you can online the disk again
