How to change cpu processor fan

Hi guys. My processor is currently an AMD phenom 925. The fan has been going at 7000RPM straight for a few months already and the noise is ridiculous. It stays at that speed even when idle. A repairman once told me its because the ball bearing or whatever stuff inside spoilt and i was wondering if changing the fan will help to solve this problem. As of now the fan is still the stock fan from amd.

Can anyone tell me if its possible and guide me along please? much appreciated guys.

Not spoil. I think thermal paste dried up. Just need to clean up and reapply.

I think it's a 70mm fan? I think it is possible to simply change the fan without replacing the heatsink if that is what you're looking for. But if I were you, I'd spend around $30 for a budget CPU cooler. MUCH MUCH quieter and cools better.

Also..7000 RPM? That's freaking fast, didn't know the stock fan can spin that fast.

Edit: I still got the stock fan from the AMD cooler. Just the fan, let me know if you're interested. But I can tell you the stock fan is really loud even at slight load.

A cpu cooler comprises of the heat sink and fan is it? Are they all compatible? Like they aren't just specifically for either amd or intel. If thats the case then i'd go for it since I was checking the prices for cpu coolers and i thought it was only the fan. And yeah 7000RPM wtf, freaking noisy and can hear it from almost anywhere in the house.

rmb to clean the processor with isopropyl alcohol after that then you install the air cooler and you are good to go, got any problem just go youtube and see how people install the air cooler hope it helps!

As a Phenom II user myself, I smell some BS coming from the technician.

1. Check the CPU temperature. Use Hardware Monitor or go to the BIOS and see.

2. If the temperature is >60 even when the system is idle, it means that the heat sink is choked full of dust. Take out, clean it and then remount it with fresh thermal paste (clean off the old thermal past as well).

3. It is likely that you can somewhat adjust the fan ramp up at the BIOS. The stock fan is 3 pin, so no PWM, but it is still possible to control the fan speed to a certain extent via voltage.

From the hardware monitor, the cpu goes up to 60 degrees when gaming and around 32 when idle. I have adjusted the fan speed in the bios before but after sometime it went back to being super noisy. Im thinking would just replacing the whole cooler solve the problem? Not that your solution sucks but i think cleaning the heat sink etc would be quite troublesome and i have not done it before while i have taken out the whole cooler before once. that's one bogus repairman... trying chop your money


for better quiet, get a new cooler with larger fan... those cheap tower shaped coolers with 120mm fans... and with pwm...

even if you change the cooler you will still need to clean it, if not the performance for your new cooler will not be so good.
