How to get started in SAP ERP?

I've a diploma in IT, and taking a part time multimedia degree.
Looking to go into SAP route as the pay seems rewarding.

Is it advisable? With my multimedia degree to go into a field which is more towards computer science/engineering?

And how do I get started? No experience with SAP so totally clueless. Any books that helps from the library? Any courses to take?

SAP have been very quite at moment but I have to admit it's sleeping giant awaiting to be given new life....

1st get certified... go for admin side 1st... like SAP Basis.. then plan your way up...

I have heard that even u get SAP cert which are darn expensive, cannot promise a entry into a job.

They are looking for ppl with experience.

If you are having IT background, go ABAP then move to a functional role

I am thinking of going this path but gave up due to not having enough capital to go for the course which cost like $18,000!!

one possible method of getting into SAP field. first join a big mnc that is using SAP as its core ERP...possibly in infrastructure support, applications support, desktop support, networking, etc....once u r there, spend a few years to prove your talents then slowly try to find openings within the SAP functional or abap teams...

definitely not a conventional path...but it might work! there is no point spending thousands of dollars and taking up SAP courses on your own if you do not have the relevant experience...

Hi, I am currently in this situation. Previously was accountant with few yrs exp only Acca cert and lithan graduate diploma in FI. Just accepted a job in SAP basis.

I actually have 3 question regarding sap careers.
1)How do I transition into FICO
2)stay a basis/sysadmin high stress and 24/7 :'(
3)Should I go into other SAP module instead? as the exit opportunity seem better.

Edit: option 3, 3 years in SAP basis with cloud. My advise forget about SAP, it's always about chasing the next project. Being honest here IT projects are super stressful and time consuming,not worth sacrificing your health and mental health.
Reason being nobody teaches you anything bec they all just google and project have poor coordination probably bad corporate culture. So it burn you out rapidly.

My advise from any field, just transition into data science. SAP projects is a real pain, just avoid. Going into IT avoid sysops/admin which is 24/7 role, that is SAP Basis and it's a nightmare.

The only plus side is that I got exposure to the cloud side of things and exited the SAP ecosystem,with some transferred skills. No regrets, I am in cloud tech now pays better and is not 24/7. Remember 80% of IT role is operations and most are standby 24/7.... Hope this help some poor soul to avoid sysops/sysadmin/security-ops

Avoid anything SAP technology roles if you are fresh grad, or career switching it will squeeze the life out of you. And once you are in, you will most likely be stuck with it because learning new technology is so different compared to SAP uniquely ancient lingo. So if you want to switch, you need to learn new things from scratch again. Total time waster, skill not transferable, the golden handcuff. Just saved you 3-4 years of suffering.
