learned how primary school teach

first, the hira and kata, just like abc
second, word power
third, sentences
fourth, composition

Currently learning hiragana and katakana.
First step is to memorise all the characters with high accuracy.
Then can at least pronounce the characters.

go google genki japanese textbook

Thanks, got it

Best way really is go Japan. Very hard to learn remotely unless u got jitpun friends. The language is so in-built into the culture, you need to understand the cultural and social implications to learn it well.

No Japanese friends, but just interested in the language.

Cant fast de. Take JLPT. Got 5level not that hard lol. Just take till level 3 like me good enough le macham secondary school level le, or u take level 5 and 4 should be primary school lv le lol basic lol

Did u know Japanese got present, past tense etc like English
Worst thing is got formal word n informal word and must change according not easy de LOl

Ok, will take note of the present, past tense, formal informal words etc.

Yes, I try to study according to JLPT standard.

get a japanese gf, fastest way.

Don't know any Japanese girls :(

My mistake in learning Japanese by myself was to take shortcut! I jumped straight to learning the vocabulary WITHOUT knowing how to read even the basic characters, and just read the English pronunciation.

Don't do that! spend a few weeks learning how to read then move on to the audio course. Hiragana is used for basic words. Katakana is used for English pronunciation. Kanji is just Chinese characters adapted into Japanese. No need to worry about Kanji yet.

Download Japanese writing here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B...ktCSkxqQlZuQmdtSFBER1FralYzRFFTWXM&authuser=0

Pimsleur Japanese audio course: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B...2M5ZkxIRTh4VEV6RnA4VDhUY181MTdETUk&authuser=0

I suggest sitting down and writing what you learn (how it sounds like in english) as you listen, because this helps in revision. Can revise in 10minutes every lesson, instead of listening to the 30min lesson again.

Once u know how to read, write, basic phrases, highly recommend to buy a book called Japanese Demystified by Eriko Sato, it cost 28 frombook depository and explain to you the reasoning behind common words/phrase.

After the audio courses can consider, expanding vocabulary by downloading an app called obenkyo. Do the identifying vocab words, lvl 5 then lvl 4 etc.

At this level, u can start reading intermediate japanese novels, use google translate if u come across difficult phrase (take picture with google translate app). Also of u read genki books now, its very easy, and a bit waste timr

You can join Couchsurfing's language meet (google it) and sit at a table with the japanese learning people to speak japanese with them as a form of training.

Thanks for the resources! Would come in handy!

Yes, my first step right now is memorising the hiragana and katagana, how they sound and how to write. After I achieve a good accuracy in identifying the characters without referring to a cheatsheet, I believe most Jap text would be easy for me to read, but not understand it yet.

Meanwhile, I'll learn the vocab too!

When I started my basic Japanese classes 6years ago. I thought one year of lessons would be good enough. But after I finished the basic classes, I realised I could not even have a decent conversation with the locals. Only can ask v basic questions like general directions and the such.

My advise is to expose yourself to as much Japanese as you can. I used to listen to Japanese radio program during work. Weekdays 7-9am tune in to 96.3fm there's a Japanese program. After that I would use this app call raziko (only available on Japanese Google play store) to listen to Tokyo fm throughout the day and when I go home at night I will watch 2-3hours of Japanese drama/variety show or anime.

I learn from teacher. I feel this is the best way. Also, I got a few language partners to practice Japanese. I trade English with their Japanese.

stay there until can master language up to your expectation

that's the best way to learn the language which include the culture

need at least 1-2 years
