HP Pavilion DV6 laptop

Hi,

My 4 year old HP DV6 notebook is giving a SMART error upon boot-up. The machine has become extremely slow during boot-up sometimes taking almost 20-25 minutes to fully boot-up and the HDD LED stays on for a long time due to some reason.

The notebook is also overheating near the fan. Can this be a mainframe issue?

Could this be a Hard disk issue or malicious virus taking up resources as I think some programs might be running in the background. Should I try to reformat the HDD completely or replace it?

This is definitely a HDD issue. Usually when the SMART error comes up, likely you have to replace the HDD.
Chances of virus is very very low as there are only a few types of virus targeted to attack the firmware of the HDD.
