I have an HP pavilion that I bought from new about 2 years ago. It is a core i7 so processor is fast

But machine is very slow and is probably the HDD

How easy is it to change the HDD to SSD on this? I'm sure this will solve the speed issue but not very confident of changing it over since the laptop didn't come with any installation disks to set up the laptop again

You can try searching disassembly video on YouTube or the service manual on Internet for your model.

For some laptops, they are not designed to be easily serviced or disassembled. Others may be as easy as unscrewing and sliding open a bottom panel cover.

You can purchase a 2.5" SSHD (like Seagate Firecuda) and swap it with the HDD to boost the performance. Or you can install a SSD in the m2 slot.

yes 2.5" have have been around for damn long years (probably since when they have a laptop or ext hdd.)

m.2 from what i know (desktop) is at least 3~4 years ago. as for laptop i dunno.

2 years ago have laptop with m.2 port and a 2.5" sata port?

m.2 rarely - with exceptions being on gaming laptops such as ailenwares.
m.sata is more common since a couple of years back - Asus uses it as a cache supposedly for it's sshd.

Hello,

You can try backing up and doing a factory reset to see if it helps you out :)

If you are intending to swap out to a SSD, it's pretty straight forward.

HP are one of the few brands that have fantastic service guides on their product page. Do you have the specific model / product number of your Pavilion?

You can check it via HP's Support Assistant (Pictured)

Thanks all for your comments.

For anyone thinking of doing this, it is quite easy if you just watch the you tube videos on how to do it.

The part that too me the longest was cloning the existing hard disk, but once that was done, the actual physical switch was easy. As long as you can locate all the screws including the hidden ones the opening up is no problem.

With the SSD the laptop is now super fast. Quite honestly I hated the HP because it is was so slow but now it is much better to use
