Have you checked with HSBC regarding this? In the new terms, it's clearly stated under exclusion for GIRO bill payment:
  • Payments to HSBC Credit Cards
  • Payments to any financial institute and trading platforms relating to crypto-currencies, stock exchange and trades.
Unless payment made to credit cards are not considered payment to financial institute!
hsbc cso clarified the 2nd pointer here only excludes crypto/shares related

Time to hunt for new cashback cards and cancel this HSBC one. 1.5% cashback many other cards also giving this.

>$2k spend still have 2.5%
I will go with Citi Cashback+ and pay via Giro using HSBC EGA
1.6% + 1% rebate. No need to worry about minimum spend or rebate cap
actually this is a good point. 👍🏻

for HSBC advance, we need $2k spend just to hit 2.5% cashback

How do I 'activate' the complementary travel insurance if charged the full flight using this card? Or no need to activate one?

anyone knows if the 1.5% rebate for this card will be in same month? i.e. can pay the bill less the rebate?
