hi guys, may i check why is the pc accessing the internal storage of u11 at such slow speed even using the original supplied USB cable? Does that mean my laptop gotta to have USB 3.0 in order to have fast access to the internal storage?

You're limited to USB 2 speed if your laptop doesn't have USB 3 or 3.1

If you are connected via USB 3.1 ports, u need to enable it under settings > connections to get higher speed transfer.

The HTC U11 is about to get a major firmware update that brings some cool new features. One of them is Bluetooth 5.0 - apparently the hardware is there it just needed to be enabled.source: m.gsmarena.com/htc_u11_to_have_bluetooth_50_after_a_software_update-news-26533.php

The original supplied cable is USB 2.0, not USB 3.x. So you need to get a separate cable plus your laptop requires USB 3.x port to deliver fast transfer speed.

sorry but 2.0 or 3.x doesnt affect the charge speed rite :p :s13: i noob :p

PS: checked online, some say yes, some say no. THo one article say USB2 support 0.5A while USB3 support 0.9a. So technically shld be faster. but why HTC gives usb2 cable nia tsk tsk tsk....

HTC is using QC 3.0 tech (qualcomm quick charge tech), so whichever USB2/3 does not matter in terms of charge speed. It also supports limited USB Power Delivery (max 18W).

You try to charge using 0.9A, see how long it will take to charge your phone or use battery charge time calculator like https://www.easycalculation.com/physics/classical-physics/battery-charge.php.

With regard to USB 3.1, you will need USB type C to type C 3.1 not type A to type C.

ahhh isit. sorry i know nuts abt elect (i cant differentiate bet volt/amp/current/etc) hahahahahaha

i tot higher number = faster charge (pump more power in) =:p

Last time when all chargers used 5V, the easiest way is to just look at current(I). However, with QC3.0, the charging voltage and current changes. Hence you have to look at the power delivered (P=IV).

If charging via computer usb port, will be limited to those numbers you mentioned at 5V. Hence if 0.9A at 5V, you'll be charging at 4.5W

If charging by wall plug with qc tech, the voltage will vary from 5V to 12V and varying current, up to 18W for most mobile phones.

USB 2 or 3 don't matter for wall plug but the data pins must be present.

The data transfer speed is denoted by the number (USB2.0/3.0/3.1 etc).
The type is the physical connector plug shape (USB Type-C, Type-A, Micro-B etc ).

USB 3.0/USB 3.1 (Gen.1) Type A supports 5 Gbps.
USB 3.0/USB 3.1 (Gen.1) Type C supports 5 Gbps.
USB 3.1 (Gen.2) Type A supports 10 Gbps.
USB 3.1 (Gen.2) Type C supports 10 Gbps.

So its still possible for USB 3.1 Type-C to USB 3.1 Type-A cable to deliver at USB3.1 data transfer speed of 5/10 Gbps if both host and source support.

Thanks for the info and advise, and apologise for the confusion. I just read USB 3.1 is decoupled from USB type C, hence as what you mentioned above. However, I have never seen USB type A 3.1 in PC/laptop so far, since they are either USB 3.0 type A or 3.1 type C.

Generally the products marketed as USB3.1 out there are actually USB3.1 (Gen.1) which is essentially giving the same 5Gbps data speed as USB3.0 so you can see them to be similar.
For 10Gbps capable USB products, its labelled as USB3.1 (Gen.2) or USB3.1 with 10Gbps speed.

Thus, USB3.0 Type A to USB3.1 Type C cable can still provide the 5Gbps data transfer speed similar to the USB3.1 Type C to USB3.1 Type C.

For 10Gbps speed, on top of the USB3.1 (Gen.2 or 10Gbps stated) cable you will still need USB3.1 (Gen.2) ports in laptops (only found in flagship) or desktop PC (niche motherboards) to support.

Yup, understood, thanks for the detailed explanation. Yup, I have only got Gen 1 cable but got Gen 2 port on my laptop.

Went to M1 shop today to recontract HTC U11, it was incredulous when the salesperson insisted that there is no local service centre in SG for HTC phone. He also recommended the Oppo R11 instead, which was only $80 cheaper based on my price plan. That aside, i went ahead to get the U11 Red and it is such a gorgeous phone. I wonder how many potential HTC customers were lost if the salespersons in telco shops are so misinformed. Sigh.

SMH.. which M1 Shop is it? LOL..

I think the salesperson is an Oppo salesman.. he/she will be getting comission from Oppo.
