Oh great and wise hardware masters!

I had a great idea of upgrading my home entertainment technology with a PC. Alas, however I lack the necessary knowledge of hardware specs and prices and come to you all in supplication for your advice and guidance!!! :s13:

Here's what my desired tasks would be:

1. Download torrents to keep me on top of my favorite shows (ShowRSS + uTorrent I guess, unless you guys have a better recommendation?). I would consider myself a heavy user - downloading seasons of multiple TV shows and switching to a pretty much all digital media library.

2. Manage my media via an XBMC or Plex set up (I love XBMC but hear that Plex is apparently now more superior?).

3. Play games off Steam via Big Picture for when I want a quasi-console experience with a controller or on the couch. Games in question: Devil May Cry 4, Civ 5, Dishonored, Tomb Raider, the Witcher, etc. as well as lovely indies like Monaco.

I'd love for it to look nice (last time I built a PC I found it challenging to find a HTPC style case; plus I may not be able to afford cosmetic appearance if I need it to be a gaming powerhouse as well).

I have a TV, and would probably need help on the hardware, as well as a keyboard and mouse set up that makes sense for a couch.

In terms of budget I'd honestly look for whether there's a lowest logical price point here. I spent $2K on my current rig for serious sit down gaming; I'd love to be able to get an HTPC that can game for around $500-$1K.

Thanks in advance!

Willing to go over if I'm being stupid for setting the cap too low and missing out on a good deal.

Hey royfrosty - thanks for the reply. I will look for it tomorrow at Sim Lim.

Last time I was there I had a hard time finding mini cases though - does anyone know what the best shop would be to check out for this?
