I'm thinking of 3D2N hualien for river tracing, river rafting, taroko gorge and whale watching. Reckon it's possible?

However, I'm still also deciding on which company to go with for these activities, any recommendations?

Thanks!

Tarako can't be done in a day. Ideally, a few days is better for Tarako. Most people just pick and skip some parts of Tarako.

Thanks for your replies! Problem is I'm travelling alone and most minsu(s) I checked offer two pax. I'm considering a hostel nearby Hualien station so 'extra tours or activities I might have to book them myself.

Taroko 2 days if you want explore most of it. River tracing and whale watching 1 day. Also do not miss the great cycling track of hualien (1 day). And the great east rift valley (1-2days)

I recommend you to stay 7 days!

There's a public bus that goes to Taroko Gorge, in a loop.

To be honest, staying near Hualien train station isn't great as there is no amenities/ food nearby and you'll end up taking cab or cycling to the town area.

Most if not all minsu at town area will be willing to fetch you to and fro the train station anyway if that's a concern.

Bingo!
But most prefer to use train station as a launch pad.
Best is near 舊鐵路商圈 at zhongshan road area.

No point staying in or near zhiqiang night market unless really you dwang there whole night!

Ah.... I planned near the station cos maybe I intend to stay for only one night. And the next day I'll head back to Taipei for something else.

May i gather some advice for booking the train to Hualien?
I noticed that to pre-book online with credit card, you need to collect tickets two days before? But I'm intending to go Hualien the moment I reach Taipei.

What if I arrive at Taipei by Scoot at 6am in the morning and go to Taipei Main station, will I be able to get a ticket to Hualien over the counter? (on a wednesday)

Usually will I get the return ticket as well or it can be bought when I want to head back to Taipei in the evening?

Thanks guys for your advice and many information! :D

Advance booking online is advise..And for foreigners, collection at least 30mins before train departure..Not 2 days before..

Over the counter is rather hard or dont have even on a weekday..

Not likely you can get tickets over the counter as summer holidays is coming real soon.
Please kindly buy your return sector. Some trains allow boarding freely, but not all. In particular is taroko express and puyuma. Strictly no boarding without seat placement. If you do so, get ready to pay 50% more on top of the actual tickets.

By the way, when will you be travelling?

Cingjing via taroko in the afternoon? Take care man. The road is ardous and windy. Usually tourists leave early to get to the other side be it east to west or west to east.

Advise that you leave early not leaving it to noon.
Eay to get misty by nightfall.

You should definitely book the tickets in advance, forward and return. In my experience, there were plenty of seats to Hualien(weekday) but hardly any back to Taipei(weekend).

I am planning to go to Hualien next month.
Staying 1 night in Hualien.

Day 1 : Taipei to Hualien by train. Arrive 11am.
Day 2 : Hualien to Taipei by train. Depart 5pm.

Which recommend hotel near train station?
Where can I go on the 1st day?
For 2nd day, I will be arranging a half day tour to Taroko.
Any driver to recommend? Looking for a combi to fit 6 adults.

Thanks.
