The sensor is about twice larger

But the amount of pixels is also 3.33 times more that means individual pixels will be smaller and more prone to noise.

If the mate resolves noise via pixel binning, then the camera is going to be 10MP instead of 40MP, making it a lower-res than the 12MP output

Waiting to see the real world verdict on the 2 cameras. I like the M20 features and display size. Additional features of the Pro not needed, camera is the one thing but also at a hefty cost.

Mate 20X in a smaller package essentially is the sweet spot.

Played with them at huawei store.

M20P is 1g heavier but felt lighter than M20.

The screen is very curved like old s7edge, with the notch, visible area is smaller than n9.

But in hand feel is comfortable because it is only 72mm in width, i think phone width under 73mm is most comfortable for asian hands.

M20 felt like older mate, too wide for 1 hand use.

EMUI felt much smoother than older huawei phones, not sure is due to faster Kirin or Huawei cut down the animation times. The gestures is more useful than Pixel3 but cannot compare to iphone. Apple is way ahead of android again.

The higher res screen of M20Pro is clearly a step-up from all other huawei phones, now is near flagship level. Older huawei phones either use low-res oleds or pentile lcd or low brightness lcd, all cmi.

The pro screen looked quite curved. Curved screen means need to use those loca glue tempered glass. Also dunno if it will affect the fingerprint scanner.

i'm wondering if it means that it's time to forget about applying screen protectors. with the curved edge and in-screen fingerprint scanner, anything on top of it will either cause some ugly sides or lessen the sensitivity?

after all, the screen is gorilla glass 5? or 6?

Just sharing! Take it with a pinch of salt! It probably needs more reviews and confirmation.

- On the topic of the in-display finger print reader: "The biggest downside I can see so far is that because these methods use Huawei’s own tech, apps that are normally unlocked via fingerprint (Banking apps, for example) will simply revert to asking for your pin as these won’t work with the fancy new biometric methods."

https://www.trustedreviews.com/reviews/huawei-mate-20-pro

If that is really the case, personally it's more of a minor inconvenience that isn't really a deal breaker. But that's just me hahah. Shall wait and see for more information!

thanks for sharing. for me is a almost a deal breaker. what's the pt of the fancy face unlock and under-the-screen fingerprint scanner if the standard apps don't use it? and yes we definitely need more people testing this...

Hopefully it can be remedied through software (and the willingness of the app creators). But I Guess with so much variety(android phone ecosystem), some things might not work from the the get go or at all hahaha. Fingers crossed! Hope many can enjoy the phone :)

Not a fanboy, just overly optimistic hahah.

The Malaysia prices seem very attractive at 2799 for mate 20, and 3599 for the pro. Sg retail 998 and 1348 respectively.
Sg warranty is 2 years VS Malaysa 1 year though

Is there a launch date for the Mate 20X in Singapore?

I see that this model will be sold in Malaysia from 11 Nov 2018 at RM3,199/- and that the free gifts are the M-Pen and a flip cover.

I feel m20pro is worth upgrade over p20pro.
The screen is much better and UI smoother.

But p20pro is the last of front facing fp sensor, and if the rumors that m20pro in screen fp sensor is not certified secure, than maybe not...

m20pro stereo speakers also much softer than p20pro.

i also prefer p20pro lens arrangement, and p20 pro twilight more classy look.

lol, in end m20pro like quite a few compromises.

Mate 20 very tempting for the headphone jack... Compared to P20 pro which don't have :(

Sent from Xiaomi REDMI 4X using GAGT

Imho, headphone jack will be redundant if start to use wireless earbuds..
unless you are using headphones with your phone...

Too bad the nano memory card is not used by other manufacturers.

Who knows next time nano memory card will be common just like microsd card. Meantime, can just stick to the nano memory card with microsd adapter to use for file transfer.

Since Mate 20 has FM Radio, I will definitely buy that. I feel like using the Mate 8 all over again. That's the previous Huawei flagship to have FM Radio.

hmm.. just asking.. if Mate 20 has no built in FM radio... can use software(android app) to emulate FM radio??

I'm still not ready to step to wireless because of the sound quality and I read complaints that the P20 pro usbC to 3.5mm connector screwed up the sound quality hence abit wary of that phone

i'm really gonna miss the tap and unlock on the front facing p20 pro instead of the tap (or press hard?) and hold for the in-screen fpr on mate 20 pro. if it doesn't work with banking apps then it is a deal breaker for me. cos currently already dbs ibanking app doesn't work with p20 pro fpr (for some reasons i'm not sure of) but that's the only bank so far.

tap (gentle) and unlock is damn fast. the 'hold' part slows down the process considerably.

It will be great if mate 20 got the same camera and the same display oled as pro.
