Haha even worse if I connect my wireless headphones and switch on GPS. The whole status bar is almost full.

Why not? China rom should work in SG just fine.
I personally have used at least 2 China rom phones in SG, although not this mate 9. I do not see any reason why any China rom will not work in SG.

Supposedly you need to remove the SG SIM, leaving only the foreign SIM inside, then it will find the updated ROM.

Camping here for B158 reviews before I jump in.
