Huawei Nova 3I bought from Challenger
I am not sure if anyone has ever encountered this experience.
I bought a 2 months old Huawei Nova 3I from a seller. The phone was under 2 years warranty and the warranty was registered in the first owner name.
The first owner bought the phone brand new at Challenger. He also passed me the receipt, the box with challenger tag. I later checked the warranty with Huawei online, everything is in order no doubt.
The battery became bloated after 22 months of daily use. I bought it in to Huawei since it is still covered under 2 yrs warranty.
To my shock, when the technician opened the back case, he found a 3rd party service sticker with a logo "ST" and said the phone has been tapered and they hence cannot provide the warranty.
Luckily I was able to connect with the first owner who sold me the phone. Of course, why would us even send the phone to 3rd party where in the first place there is a 2 years warranty. Anyway since I was able to contact him, I thought I just confirm it with him just in case. But he did not send the phone to any outside shop except to stick the screen protector.
Huawei asked me to check with Challenger. Challenger requested for the receipt which I passed on to them. They then throw lots of questions like warranty registration with Huawei which I do not find it is necessary. They should really investigate where they purchase the phone from and ask for the serial number of the phone instead.
Of course, the first owner quite reluctant to hand me his personal details. He is a nice guy, the type that prefer to settle things quickly. He is really nice and said he help me pay the replacement battery which is S$49 since the phone was bought from him.
I appreciated his offer and did not accept. I just want to find out what is the truth. How come things like this can happen when the phone was bought new in Challenger? Any one experience this? Any comments. What if we buy a phone from any phone shops, is it safe? By the phone, the phone works perfectly fine during my 2 years of use. Only the battery bloated due to over charge I guess.
