Hi, I got a problem and hope someone here can enlighten me. I have LG blue ray dvd. Recently I brought a blue ray disc from Japan but I can't watch it on my pc. Why? I'm using media player classic (from k lite bundle) as my fren told me that it has all the format to play.

Bluray drive is not meant to watch direct just like that. It won't produce any sound nor picture if you do not have the correct hardwares for sound and correct software for both picture and sound.

Some facts before telling you more.

Blu-ray Disc audio is encrypted in within the disc itself. The bluray drive is not capable to decode all those encoded sound in the disc. It's protected. Format bmvd is the format for Blu-ray Disc. Media classic can't play that video format. So far I only use Kodi player playback. Which is free.

However bluray just won't run if you can't decode out the audio from the disc. They need to be decoded together.

There's a few ways to go bout it.

1. Buy the Anydvd hd software. Subscription based on yearly. Once your subscription expires, you will no longer receive any form of updates. This updates contains info on new bluray movies release in the market. No subscription you still can watch old movies. But you can't watch all the new blurays.

2. Use a hdmi capable sound card. This is really expensive and one time payment. But do note that the only card you can find now in market is asus hdav 1.3. Very old PCI soundcard. But requires you to do hunting. I found mine in Bangkok.

3. The cheapest way, rip the entire bluray 50gb into your hard disk. This takes extremely long time to rip even on the highest over clocked i7.

4. Best solution is to ditch the bluray drive and go for a proper bluray player and connect it straight to your monitor.

For sound, if you do not have proper home theatre that can decode dts hd and Dolby trueHD then you will be bounded by just 2.0 or 2.1. Which defeats the purpose of playing bluray.

As what royfrosty and peach tea have mentioned; either use a bluray player or software to playback.

Cyber link powerdvd should be fine since I'm using the previous version to watch my bluray too.
