You can see the overhead sign on the track to see which track platform # you should wait, see the next incoming train's final destination for e.g. in sg at City Hall station you will see next incoming train, indicate terminate at AMK station.

So for your case, you just need to look for the sign indicate the train to Nagano will do.

You can use sort by "transfer" instead of the default "time" for convenience.

Hi MajiMax,
Thanks for the help! So do I wait at the same track which i alight for the next train to Nagano too?

The track that you need to wait is also stated in hyperdia. When you arrive in Nagano, you have to wait at departure track no.6. And in Nagoya, you wait for the shinkansen at track no. arr11/dep17.

If you are not too sure, just go up to the any station conductor and they are more than happy to assist you.

Oh I would suggest you to quickly see which platform to transfer as hyperdia only gives an allowance of a few minutes for each transfer which shd be more than enough for regional stations. You can see for your first and second transfer, there's a 6 mins and a 5 mins transfer time.

can google the station map to help u to identify the track layouts…………it is very useful when the transfer time is critical to your mission.

if u are using a JR rail pass, pl make sure that 'private' trains are excluded in your search.

alternatively, if u do not mind paying the difference between JR train and pte train, then take note that there is transfer between the 2.

also note that your JR pass is ineligible for the fast NOZOMI SHINKANSEN.

3 transfer.
Timing is a bit tight. They might not be the same platform even at Shinshunakano.

At Nagano, u will need transfer operator. Meaning definitely not the same platform.
5 mins timing must rush or even walk faster or run.

At Nagoya should be fine. But is Shinkansen. So some walking from limited express platform to Shinkansen.

Big train station state, smaller one can have few track platform # but not stated on Hyperdia.

Hyperdia now don't support SG apps store right.
When I was there few ago, it prompt only for Japan app store.
Had to use web browser version..

Yup, most of the time they state but sometimes they don't state.

If TS is worried about the transfer, then taking the bus to nagano works as well and it does solve the headache of transferring.

Yup. The web browser version is good enough though.

You can try this app on Google Play Store - Japan Travel - Route, Map, JR.

It functions almost like hyperdia. Put in origin and destination, and the app gives 3 routes on how to best reach it. Can also customise the search e.g. prioritise JR pass routes, include/exclude taxis etc. I used it everyday during my recent trip.

I agree that sometimes transferring between JR and private operators can be the time-consuming part, especially when some stations are quite huge, and sometimes JR/Private operators use the same track numbering for their respective portions. If in doubt, just find the staff on the platforms or at the manned counters.

The company behind the google app is also behind the iphone app 'navitime for japan travel'. That app is available for sg app store. Hyperdia by voice is available on the US store though.

Thanks all for all your advices and infos on this thread. Yeah, for transferring of trains from track to track we find it rushing at times especially those with interval of 5-10 mins. So we will book the next time slot just to play safe 😬.
Apart from this, we will be getting JR pass as we will be traveling up to Osaka and Kyoto after visiting snow monkey park. May i know does the JR pass covers the shinkansen from tokyo to nagano direction as well?

Yes. Got Coverage with Kagayaki, Hakutaka or Asama.
For the transfer time of 10mins, i think that is really safe. 5 mins is a bit tight but i still could make it with a bit of rushing.
Some of the train like Limited Express Shinano or Shinkansen (Hikari). They don't run so often like Shinano i think one per 1 hour only. Hikari around 30mins frequency. So better to rush than wait for next train.
but take note for your Nagoya to Osaka. That route you can use only Hikari or Kodama. But you can't use the fastest Nozomi.

Thanks anyhowsaysay! Yeah, someone mentioned on the earlier reply that JR pass does not covers the Nozomi, how about the limited express train? Are they covered under JR pass?
