Thanks anyhowsaysay! Yeah, someone mentioned on the earlier reply that JR pass does not covers the Nozomi, how about the limited express train? Are they covered under JR pass?

Yes. All JR limited express services are covered

don't take the risk lor. in my last Dec trip, 10mins to switch from non shinkansen line to a shinkansen line at Nagoya from Nagano was a short walk.

I could be wrong, apps usually factor in the transfer time. Eg same platform ones usually the time gap is very small. But those that need to change platforms ones are longer. But being new to the station, sometimes the allowed time may still be too short, i know.

I just did a short 3 mins transfer yesterday at shiojiri from one limited express to another limited express. The platform numbers weren't indicated in the hyperdia app and that's probably why it gave only 3 mins for the transfer. I got off the shinano Express from Nagoya at platform 5 in shiojiri and had to walked very quickly over a overhead bridge to platform 1 to catch the Azusa going to Tokyo. It helped that I was listening to the train conductor's announcement on connecting trains before alighting, and there were announcements and signs on the platform as well as along the overhead bridge. But it was still a rush one. I can imagine if you are new to Japan and you don't read/understand Japanese that you might not make the connection.

Just a side note.

if you're transferring to a different operator (ie, jr to non-jr), you might need to exit the jr gate and enter the non jr gate before you're able to find the platform to board. The station staffs would be able to guide you if you're lost. The signs are pretty obvious and easy to follow as well.
