How can I start a family with just a 2-room BTO flat? More rooms are essential. There needs to be a change—singles should be allowed to buy 3-room and 4-room BTO flats in mature areas, as well as prime, standard, and Plus housing types, so singles can easily start a family.

i do wish i can buy bto 3 room as single but hor..
i feel some single like to abuse the system. because there are single buy resale just to rent

Should allow singles to buy 2 room and 3 room flat.

They may need the room to bring their parents over or expand the family or do WFH office work or rent out one room if no job.

Single buy bigger BTO for what? Everyday sleep different room? Most probably want to rent out the unit/room or sell after MOP for profit. Dont forget they can stay with parent . Just buy bigger resales flat but pay market price.

For once I agree. Single need so many rooms for what? Rent out make money? Even if one room bring girl home pika pika also not immediately baby pop out right? If tio liao can always upgrade to a bigger unit right.

by this logic. Parents whose kids move out should then downgrade to smaller unit and widow old folks should relinquish their 4 or 5 room to a smaller unit as they "shouldn't" have any use for it - do it immediately ?

Couples who don't intend to have kids shouldn't be greedy and apply for 4 or 5 room? How do you determine if one should have a bigger unit ? Flats used to be 3 rooms and multi generation kids grow up fine. So now we must have rooms for maids, kids , study room, etc ? Everyone has different needs and wants. Why should anyone be subjected to how big or small our house should be ($$$ aside).

HDB can always build larger unit. Or smaller units. It's the total number of HDB available for sale for all then how big or small the flats are. Everyone should be able to apply for flats they are willing to afford and pay.

HDB has become a lottery for couples and left everyone else behind in the economic ladder.
