As an example, this is their cheapest SIM only plan: https://www.singtel.com/personal/products-services/mobile/eform/simonlyplanlite/ekyc which has the normal price of $35/month but is discounted to $24.50 per month currently.

Meanwhile, this is their plan under the "hi!" brand: https://hi.singtel.com/plan-detail/46 for $15/month

Obviously, the hi! plan is much better at a fraction of the cost and is still under Singtel.

So why would any sane person buy the expensive Singtel plan when they can buy a better plan for less under the hi! brand? You don't usually see companies do this because it makes no sense, it's called cannibalising their own product.

Also, i dont understand why Singtel's plans are so expensive? These prices do not even include a free/discounted mobile phone. Even at the promotional pricing, $24.50 for 300gb of data is a joke. It doesn't even have unlimited calls or SMS. Am i missing something here?

I think they are using prioritisation to make the more expensive plans feel "better" to create a segment.

maybe there should be an independent study to research on this gimmick of network prioritisation

say 10 persons sign up for all the available Singtel plans and do a 1 week study to trial their plans' network in various parts of Singapore (e.g. shopping centres, underground MRT, airport, Lim Chu Kang etc.)

Only then we will know is it expensive plan always got higher network speed

1. SingTel hi! at most has the same priority as other SingTel MVNOs (Zym, Zero1, VIVIFI, CMLink and Gomo) for local usages.

SingTel MVNOs will have lower priority than the cheapest Singtel MNO SIM Only plan at S$15.28 per month (normal 5G+). SingTel 5G+ Enhanced plans and 5G+ Priority plan are even more expensive.
https://www.singtel.com/personal/products-services/mobile/5g-plus

The reports seem to indicate SingTel hi! has the lowest priority when it comes to roaming. That being said, my wife has no issues with SingTel hi! S$15 plan for roaming in China.

2. Starhub is now using 5G+ to set priority for Starhub MNO SIM Only plans and Starhub Prepaid 5G plans as well.

Starhub has raised the price of 5G Lite plan from S$22 to S$25 and now S$28.

https://www.starhub.com/personal/mobile/mobile-phones-plans/why-choose-starhub-mobile/5g-plus.html

3. SingTel and Starhub are the leading Mobile Service providers in Singapore. So apparently there are many users who do not mind paying a bit higher price for the SingTel/Starhub MNO plans. ST/SH/M1 MNO plans will have much better support level as well compared to SIMBA (low cost MNO) and other MVNOs.

4. Different users have different use cases and therefore may have different preferences. Some users may care a lot for roaming (MVNO plans may be better) and some users may not. Some users care for difficult underground MRT stations but some do not care.

5. Personally I use SingTel S$15.28 5G plan as the main line and Starhub Prepaid S legacy 5G line (S$3 per month , Starhub Happy Prepaid Card special migration offer) as the backup line
The combination serves me very well for local usage. I seldom travel and use eight S$8 for roaming usage if needed (effective price at S$4 per month due to S$88 one for one top-up offer).

The following link should work.

existing link
https://www.singtel.com/personal/products-services/mobile/eform/simonlyplusform
12-month contract
250GB of 5G+ data
FREE 50GB DataRoam Monthly to Malaysia for 12 months
1,000 mins
500 SMS
12 FREE months of Caller ID
12 FREE months of 5G+ Access
$15.28/mth

Note: after 12 month contract, the plan becomes very expensive. No one really wants to use the plan out of contract after 12 months. Remember to recontract before contract expire data, you can also port out after contract expires.

S$15.28 per month is an okay price for a MNO 5G plan from Singtel. Therefore there are some users who prefer to stay with this plan, including me.

But you can see the roaming bundle is not as good as Singtel hi! 15 5G plan, and Zym/Zero1/VIVIFI/CMlink S$15 5G plan.

And Zym/Zero1/VIVIFI may have free 5G forever promotion for the S$10ish 4G plan. Zym is probably the most popular one among the three.

BTW, there are also some users who like the S$19.25 Singtel 5G Enhanced Lite plan (12 month contract, usual price at S$24.50 per month).

All in all, different users have different preferences, nothing wrong with the choice.

But no matter how i do the maths, its not worth paying for these super expensive contract plans when you can get a cheap $10 or below plan and buy a new phone with the difference...

Take note Singtel has SIM Only Priority Plans with no contract.

As mentioned, everyone has different use cases and different preferences in terms of the budget

The SingTel 5G+ Priority plans have an important advantage for some users as they have the highest priority among SingTel Mobile plans. Nothing wrong if the users are willing to pay.
