Now that the parf is removed, there will be no incentive to scrap the car.

so i foresee ICE/Hybrid car owners will be renewing the COE of their cars after the COE expired << this will probably affect the choices of cars in future, as owners would want reliable model for uses beyond the 10 years.

but renewing COE will contradict the govt plan for all EV registration by 2030, and 100% clean energy vehicle by 2040.

so if the govt cannot penalize you for not scraping your ICE/hybrid car (since no more parf), i predict the govt will impose additional tax (penalty) for car owners to continuing to use ICE/Hybrid car in 2030s.

Your COE renewal is your choice... it does not supersede the Govt's rules on registration ... right?

Too poor to own a car so I never bothered to learn to navi the system.

EV push is a pump and dump scheme.
That is the hard truth.
and this hard truth benefits the coffers, so instead of the CAR not scrapped or deregistered.
Every new car on the road pay the GST and the ARF. $$$$$$ , in a 10 year cycle most likely due to the EV battery recharging cycle / cost of battery it will MOSTLY scrap.

Huatz..

of course govt rules precede. the govt will definitely come up with new rules to discourage ICE/hybrid owners to renew the COE.
Already have the incremental road tax for COE cars.

Maybe next time increase more + no cap.

Road Tax Surcharge Structure (After 10 Years)
  • 10+ to 11 years: 10% surcharge
  • 11+ to 12 years: 20% surcharge
  • 12+ to 13 years: 30% surcharge
  • 13+ to 14 years: 40% surcharge
  • 14+ years and above: 50% surcharge

Add 1 more ZERO behind ...
  • Gao Tim

slowly reduce number of Petrol Kiosk, up petrol price

Then those BMW, Renault, Peugeot, and Citroën can close shop?

Yes this measure is designed to ensure coe is always above 100k and skyrocket beyond due to car owners changing to EV in 2026 and beyond

Last time park at my block’s MSCP usually can siam parking next to an EV, these days getting more difficult due to rising number of BYDs, Teslas, Zeekr and even electric vans parking there.
The electrification trend seems to be unstoppable.

Bmw still one of the best sellers

Let's see how's BMW sales from now onwards... This new policy is only one week old, too early to tell. I think most rich BMW owner will sell before their warranty expires and thus performance motor have extended their warranty from 2 years to 5.
