Hi peeps, am wondering if there is any significant difference between the i5 7400 and i5 7500 in terms of performance and reliability. Is the 0.4Ghz difference in clock speed significant? Also I do not plan to OC.

Price difference with mobo is around $30 as per tradepac pricelist.

Appreciate any insights!:)

Your whole computer cost $1k, you want to trade $30 for 10% clockspeed?

Oh and btw, for clockspeed, you need to consider both the base and the turbo. For most cases, the CPU will be staying at the 4-core turbo clockspeed nearly most of the time, unless it is very taxing computing in which case it drops to the base

Thank you Singupingu and Wwenze for your advice :) Will go for the 7500 since the performance difference sounds worth it for the small $30 difference. Cheers!

Since both are non-overclocking models, I would strongly recommend the small premium for the faster chip if budget permits.

And it could be more worth it to consider AMD Ryzen 3 1100 when it launches in 2 weeks' time. Possibly similar performance for nearly $100 less. ;)

It was either the i5 7600K with a Z270 or i5 7400 with a H270.

No difference at all in real world running speed between 7400 and 7500. If you want, go for the fastest else settle for the 7400.

I did not consider the i7 as its not a fair comparison.

In order to use turbo boost (tb), need to dowload TB driver?

Historically does AMD or the related mobos have any reliability issues? Also lets say if I go for the 6-core version, will programmes have issues utilising all 6 cores at full load? thanks!

7600 vs 7500
0.1 GHz base clock increase and 0.3 GHz boost clock increase.

Compared to

7500 vs 7400
0.4 GHz base clock increase and 0.3 GHz boost block increase.

Both also about 20-30 dollar more than the previous skew. 7500 is more worth the upgrade compared to 7600. But to get 7600 or not, it's up to you whether is it justifiable or not. In terms of value (performance:price), 7500 is better.

So far, i5 X500 (X being the model, i.e. i5 6500/ 7500) offers the best bang for bucks.
