at same clockspeed and number of cores ... the hyperthreading of i7 is about 30% boost for converting videos ....

so your 4minute shorten to 3minute

AMD zen is going to be announced very soon .... wait and see .... potentially 8core 16 thread beast while affordably priced

Wait for AMD release to compare first before buying, if possible. Otherwise, def i7

Hi pros,

If need to convert a lot of videos, i5 or i7 CPU?

Wad kind of video converter first?

If those open-sourced ones like Handbrake of ffmpeg or VirtualDub, i7 would defintely be better.

If converting via re-exporting in software like Adobe Premiere Pro, then GPU-accelerated rendering might help with export times, i7 still prefered but i5 still manageable.

TS mention that friend giving, why still got people telling him about budget and getting used xeons ? lol

@TS get the 4790k. About 20-30% faster compared to i5 for encoding
