It really feels like the King of Pop is singing next to me. The atmosphere and the emotions of his voice is captured.

Like Kenz said before, it can bring you to tears.

Let's say If I listen to the same song on the ipad/xonar/dacport, it just feel like I'm playing back a recording, no emotional connection.

Yes, HM801 is indeed more fluid and musical.

I used to have the Korg MR-2 that plays DSD 1Bit files directly, and record DSD directly which is 24bit/192. Very very detailed and super accurate as it is meant for singers doing analytical assessment. Bought it in Singapore (one of the music store at Selegie area). Just that it uses AA battery and battery life sucks. But cheaper than both DX100 or HM-801.

Good to have more choices for us to choose and buy when you are happy! And Be happy with whatever you have bought!

MR2 is cheaper than DX100 and HM801? Can PM me the price and where to get? May be interested. Was also looking at the Tascam DR100 and Nagra SD

Bought my Korg MR2 at City Music, Peace Centre quite sometimes back, when they were doing yearly stock take, at a highly discounted price of 30%-40% off. If I didn't remember wrongly, I bought it at around $600-$700. However, not sure if they are still bringing in as the boss mentioned that it was quite niche and hard to sell.

It took me a while to sell off my used set too, though it was in mint condition.

Oh yeah! When I got in the office this morning after a week overseas a package was waiting for me containing my long awaited iBasso DX100 . Luckily I was fully prepared and had filled two 32GB Micro SD cards with 24/96 FLAC files. Size wise I'm back were I started; the DX100 is almost the same size as my first MP3 player, the Archos Jukebox, which sported a huge 20MB harddisk. Sonically the DX100 is about as far from the Jukebox as a Ferrari is from a Kia. I had to wait till lunch time but can now happily confirm that this beast clobbers all my previous portable sonic devices. A quick listen to Alan Parsons, the Buena Vista Social Club and Brueckners Symphony nr 0 confirms that I should wait till me and my new little friend can be alone To be continued....

The korg mr2 looks interesting but the SNR is rated at 90db, and the amp only has 20mw of power, good enough for iems but not for headphones. I guess have to listen to the device first before making any judgement.

honestly the dx100 sounds phenomenal. but i could not for the life of me figure out how to navigate the UI

Sound wise, it is superb and you should try out before concluding. You can actually record live music and store it like SACD, capturing all details for future keeping.

Battery wise, be prepared to burn money. The best rechargeable battery probably could keep the beast running for maximum 4 hours.

Built quality is top tier, fully made in japan.

Anyone whom I let them try the player(some with no knowledge in audiophile) all said the DX100 sounded "tok kong man" or something to that extend.

Enjoy good audio yes, but some cannot tell the different in sound quality of 128kbit mp3 vs FLAC. and also "we" have encountered people who think Ihips are better than shure/westones and etc.

maybe gear wise not able to resolve that?

i find a difference probably cos my mp3 vbr (anything from 8 - 200+kbit) are mostly from youtubes and my flac from cds, so naturally the source had an impact. seen some video with 1080 but still like sheet quality.

i suspect my ears are not too gd either, but i'm begining to hear a lot of flaws and are keen to get high fidelity mp3 from online. problem is a lot of the songs i wanted to get are not available due to licencing issues in sg.
