i'm waiting for a pk between this and walkman z against the ol fav j3.

this will decide if imma continue with fruit phone :o

should pk against the Z2. pitting the J3 against them isn't doing any justice to Cowon ><"

since when it turned out to be ibasso vs sony z :s11:

I will never classify both under the same category -_-

its just for my own gratification if anyone can pk em lah.. not intending to cause any harm.. in a sense i wanted to know if the difference between the DX and Z is quantifiable in light of the law of diminishing returns :(

What's good:
Fantastic Sound, my current equipment is the limiting factor here.
Build Quality is top notch, no sharp edges
Ample Storage Space
Lineout, Digital Out
Having one of the most epic DAP ever
The Internal Headphone amp sounds pretty close to the O2 amp at low gain setting
Ability to use the two headphone out + line out together(but volume is across the board)
Apple File format support

What's not so good:
VERY Expensive
Heavy, not pocket friendly
Low Battery Life
Standby mode and Wifi drains battery
Heat, this thing runs quite warm, not recommend to put in a seal bag
Transfer rate: 8mb/sec or less
Laggy UI
Screen is not sensitive enough, have to use quite abit of pressure
tends to skip if you play around with the player(finding songs or etc)
Hiss with high gain.
Volume control does not work if player is on standby mode/locked. Only works unlocked.
Bugs, yes this thing has bugs and will crash once in a while.

Fixed! Can you find the difference? ;)

lai lai, first impressions vs ur previous dap using iems (if possible)

DX100 First Impression:
Tested the DX100 through my UM3x (stock cable)
- Improved separation of details, the UM3x sound very upfront and close up previously. Unable to hear very well defined splitting up of details.
- Tested on one of my favorite track "David Garett - Smooth Criminal"—I was amazed at the first 15 seconds of the track. The way the ambience portrayed itself gives a very surreal feel to the music. Towards the later part at 2:28, where more instruments start to come in slowly one by one. I can still feel the clear articulation of more than one instrument, compared to the Cowon J3 with the same track which previously have the tendency to jumble everything together but still make it sound acceptable.

Going towards a more mainstream genre, I tested on Justin Bieber - Mistletoe. A very neutral response, throughout the track I could detect the bells gently ringing behind his vocals. A lot more realistic to listen to, they definitely stick to the linear frequency response chart.

Lastly, another song I always like to test iems/daps with: Frank Sinatra - Girl From Ipanema. A very relaxed presentation overall and tested with 3 different genres which still the DX100 fare very well and justify the premium price being paid for.

The Cowon J3 is a good player on its own, but tend to be colored with a brighter sound on neutral EQ and JetEffect settings off. I've been a long time user of Cowon but I have to say that DX100 is really the next stage to go to, the only drawback now will be the unstable system which I'm sure will improve over time.

Some cons noted on the DX100:
First few playbacks without music starting and earphones/headphones already plugged in, I keep getting the high pitch sound as if there is a endless loop from a speaker to a mic (feedback) in enclosed hall. Stopped encountering this after a while but the occasional hang still occurs.

Will update according after more burning-in and also when I get my hands on more CDs to rip and test out tracks with. :)

Good to see that you are enjoying it. Remember to test out 24/96-192 tracks :D

I feel the difference between this DAC and the rest of the sigma delta DACs is this:

Song like Can't Wait for Christmas - Utada Hikaru

On the DX100, the piano in the background sounds more like this:

home-hero-model-d.png

While the other dacs I have heard sounds like:

Digital+piano.jpg

Only gotten my upgraded DX100 just now as there was no one to receive it yesterday. Really nice of them to paste screen protector on it and give an extra sheet. Oh, sure missed it a lot when it was gone.

I can see what those people meant when they say the printing on the back is slanted (by about <= 1mm). But that's being really, really anal...

This is scary. Listening to 24/96 Hotel California, vocal actually sounds a little bit cleaner than before. I feel there is also a little bit more slam to the bass. Listening to other tracks now.

I noticed that it is best to put DX100 on a vibration absorbing surface. I can hear noise when it is put on hard surface, on low gain and even when playing music but not when it is put on something really soft.

The printing is of course non-issue but goes to show how biased and anal some people can be.

Having one of the most epic DAP ever.

It has its flaws but I believe the iBasso team will work on it real soon.

This is another great feature. Can someone name me another company that will do hardware upgrades for (almost) free? ;)

Can perfection be improved further? A big yes ...

OMG : DX100 + JH13pro

OMG OMG : DX100 + O2 amp + JH13pro

Almost in tears listening to Yanni Comcert Live album.

The combo of DX100 (+O2 amp) +Sony MDR-7506, scales better than with the GM8.35D headphones. Guess it's time to look at that Senn HD700 or HD650.

Care to expand on O2 vs DX100's internal amp?

And that album is phenomenal. The Storm.

O2 amp makes the DX100 sound less grainy, there's a notch in the level of refinement to the sound. The darkness of the soundstage is incomparable.

Not saying the DX100 internal amp is bad, in fact, I agree it is the best I heard out of Ibasso.
