Hi there,

Is there is a noticeable difference for a 12.5" display between:

a) 12.5" HD 1366 x 768

vs

b) 12.5" FHD IPS 1920 x 1080 ?

Basically what's the difference between IPS and non-IPS screen and between HD and FHD screen ?

And whether there's a noticeable difference between a screen resolution of 1366x768 vs 1920x1080 in a 12.5" screen ?

Thanks

My T420 number key is acting weird. sometimes it work, sometimes it doesnt' ( for certain numbers), do you guys think it's software problem or hardware problem...where can i get it checked ? Sim lim ?

Anyway, was looking for a lap top to replace my T420 but decided to spend $300+ to upgrade it with 16GB RAM and a new SSD. the result is just wow :D

X220 cannot turn on

Hi all, my x220 tablet suddenly went off while i was using it. I immediately tried to turn it on again but there was no response at all. When i press the power button there is no light at all. I tried turning it on
-with ac power only without battery
-with battery
-without ram and hdd

All of the above give same result.

When i plug the power with the battery installed, there is no charging indicator.

I tried the trick to press power button 10 times and hold 30 seconds on 11th time to discahrge static and it still did not give any response.

I suspect the power unit in the motherboard failed / the motherboard itself failed.

I appreciate any suggestions

Thank you

I think motherboard failure.

My Lenovo Ideapad Y470p also died with the same exact symptoms.

Almost 4 years

U mentioned that the mobo gave way, I speculate that perhaps
it is heat related.

Used to have the X23 about 10 years ago. Lasted me about 7 years.
The first thing that gave way was the screen. I suppose those days
processors are not running that hot like nowadays.

I reckon nowadays with powerful processors, heat and high temp will be the greatest issues that will bring down a laptop.

Hmm... now should I get that expensive laptop if it is not going to last long?

Mine still alive, end of 2011 till now.
Boot up still less than 1min with mSATA + HDD
Albeit temps running abit high, like sometimes peak at 96 degrees.

Still running strong, that's good!

I committed to d X1 Carbon at 2.2k. Hope it lasts long!

The X1 Carbon is a wondrous machine... the 14" screen and weight is a joy. Am still trying to get used to the keyboard though, coming from the full travel ones on the X220 (still the best keyboard). Am half hearted between keeping the X220 as a spare, sell it off or sell the X1 Carbon instead... sigh

Yeap, likely motherboard is gone... Same as my X61 after 7 years. For laptops, even thinkpads, I usually tweak the max processer state at 97% whilst plugged in, and 85% on battery.

At these settings, it doesn't run that hot (I run database queries off my thinkpads with nested loops and recursive subroutines, photoshop) and that hasn't ever given me any problems with speed before.

Sometimes the power LED/port not responding could be the DC board/assembly fail. Not always mainboard fail. On traditional thinkpad models, this is a fairly modular add in daughterboard to the mainboard.

As a start, reseating the board is an option. Might want to look at the maintenance manual PDFs around.
