Bro, may i know how long u took to load up Win7?
And did u do a clean install of Win7 on a new HDD, or you upgraded the existing Vista software to Win7?
Thanks!
Haha, no problem one lah. It's just that for T61, because it is using a Intel SATA controller, when installing WinXP, you will need to either:
1) Set the drive mode from AHCI to IDE in BIOS
2) Download the Intel Matrix drivers and either slip stream it onto your installation CD or place it on a floppy disk and hit F6 when prompted at the start of the install (provided you can still find a floppy disk and drive).
So to save the hassle, I think loaning the recovery DVD is a faster and easier option for most.
The time you need to clean install WinXP depends on your definition of clean install:
1) Just installing WinXP [30mins]
2) Install WinXP + Drivers [depends on how much drivers you have]
3) Install WinXP + Drivers + Updates [depends, but usually takes about 3-4hrs]
4) Install WinXP + Drivers + Updates + Softwares [can easily occupy you the whole day]

And yes, that is the reason why I am so reluctant to upgrade to Win 7 from Vista on my laptop.
The license + DVD upgrade kit has been sitting in my drawer for months.
Best is Lenovo service centre can loan me the recovery DVD to load. *blink blink to dasanyuan. :-x

We bought a intel 80GB G2 SSD and win 7 pro for my friend T61
this is a clean install. took 30mins or less to load the OS. 2hours to install some of the drivers as most are auto installed and other software like microsoft office and photoshop.
i also upgraded my T60 to win 7 pro, with a HDD inside, I install over the existing XP install, took about 30mins++ to load the OS, most of the driver nv install as all are auto installed. the system perform better than the XP and is a whole lot more stable now.
yes, i feel likewise too. i dunno if i can set aside the time to try out n upgrade to Win7. I suppose XP would b d safer path.
Mite delay Win7 to a later time, i hv to put in more thot on this.![]()

you can actually get from authorized Lenovo stores.
AddOn in Funan has the stocks for Gobi 2000. Bought @ $269.
they will charge an installation and testing fee if you are not getting it with a brand new notebook from them.
