Yes, the W520 has a quad-core processor, 1GB of graphics memory and a display that can go up to FHD (pity this deal only offers the HD option). Plus the ram can go up to 16GB. Of course something like that would be bigger and heavier than the T420, so you need to choose between portability and power.

This is the best deal in town, but if you are looking at mobile broadband just a reminder to check if it includes a WWAN antenna.

thanks for the quick reply! appreciate it. took a look at your website too.

if my needs are pretty simple, just need it for typical uni presentation, watching videos. izzit necessary to get a quad core over a duo?

What programme are you enrolling in? If you are not expected to work on graphics and videos, I'll actually recommend the X series. Its really light, excellent battery life (with the 9 cell) and decently powered to work on office apps, light graphics work and playing HD video.

If you prefer a bigger screen and expect to game a little, then the T-series with the nvidia gfx would be a good fit. A few hundred grams heavier than the X series, but gives you adequate power to do pretty much anything. Battery life is not that bad too, I'm running a T61p with a 9 cell and that gives me about 4 hours worth.

Make a trip to sim lim or funan and check out the demo units and you'll get a better feel of the size and weight.

Wow. Lenovo just announced their own ThinkPad Tablet, better late than never. Looks good and if the price is right, I don't mind getting one (At least the 2nd gen anyway) :p~~~~~

Yes it is. One is the base model which I'm using, 41785PA and another which is the highest end with the dedicated graphics card. Both have the HD+ screens which support 1600x1900 resolution. Only the base model is available at Addon Funan cuz i was sourcing around for it almost everywhere and only Addon had the base model with the HD+ screen.

hi i understand that if i buy a thinkpad, i will be paying a premium for its durability.
just wondering as technology keeps improving, is it worthwhile to pay this premium while maybe 3 years down the road, the hardware inside is slower than others out in the market.

Guess the answer is no. Even think pad is coming out new model every 8 to 9 months. So if you like new technology, then this is not a good choice.

Looks good. But wonders how it benchmarks against the current models in the market which might be cheaper than the Thinkpad Tablet.

Yes, the 1600x900 screen is available in Singapore. I ever seen it before in the retail shops.

I think is kinda rare however.

Honestly, durability yes, Thinkpad still has a slight advantage over other brands.

But if you are someone who love to change laptops, well, it is a very painful investment. And if you notice, Thinkpad these days the models do refresh quite fast like other brands.

Upgrade RAM for my ThinkPad W520

Hi all

I am considering to upgrade my RAM from 4GB to 8GB for my W520 - 4284-A99.

Should I buy
Kingston ValuRAM 4GB 1333MHz DDR3 Non-ECC CL9 SODIMM - KVR1333D3S9/4G (ValuRAM) ~ S$39 at Fuwell

OR

Kingston System-specific RAM for W520 - KTL-TP3B/4G at a higher cost ~ S$64 at Convergence System.

Thank You
Peter

ValueRam should be good enough.

Is it me or is the NUS laptop offer not very good? They only have the X220, and basically the only goodies are the bundled software (Office and Adobe CS); the specs are not great, right? Always been a fan of Thinkpads due to their durability (5 year old z61t still going strong!)...
