Is it me or is the NUS laptop offer not very good? They only have the X220, and basically the only goodies are the bundled software (Office and Adobe CS); the specs are not great, right? Always been a fan of Thinkpads due to their durability (5 year old z61t still going strong!)...

Specs are not fantastic but when you look at the price, it is justified. The money that you saved can go into adding more RAM and adding/changing to a SSD.

Hi, by the way is there any difference between ValuRAM or System-specific RAM

does the extra $25 increase performance and stability or just pay for assurance and more QA only?

Usually, I use it for running multiple VM with VMware Workstation 7.

Peter
I heard the brand specific RAMs are basically the same RAMs as those you see in the ValueRam series. Just that they are tested specifically to work for those systems from the particular brand. Therefore it is more expensive.

If you use it for VMWare, I will recommend min to have 4GB of RAM at your disposal.

Heard from a client that VMware really gobbles up ram, which is why he opted for W520 with 8GB of ram and another 8GB in the future if he needs it.

Yes, if you want to run modern OS in it, should consider more RAM.

How did you get it shipped over?

I wanted to order on Black Monday but wasn't sure how well packaged the box will be. Apple uses 2 boxes and it's very secure.

Use forwarding company lor.. Borderlix..
The price was very attractive... Corporate price + 10% ecoupon discount..

@ ginseng1 - Just a single thin-ply box with the words
"Lenovo" and "ThinkPad" printed prominently. So basically, not very well protected and cries out to be stolen. :s13:

@ quest - Ok, so the discount will cover the GST + some of the shipping cost. How much did you pay for shipping? Did Lenovo ship the item yet?

I enabled wake on lan (WOL) my thinkpad edge 13, both in bios and windows 7.

I sent the magic packet via intranet however my laptop is started (it displayed some info about builtin realtek lan on the monitor) but will not boot into windows 7.

You have to take the risk of good received may not be at acceptable condition.
I suggest if the saving is not great, do not take the risk.
