Is it true that the new thinkpad series keyboard is going to be chiclet style instead of the original ones?

is the ThinkPad still as solid like in the old days when it was still under IBM?

I was an IBM ThinkPad user and now am a Lenovo ThinkPad user... no doubt there were some technological exchanges between IBM and Lenovo (and vice-versa).

They still maintain their own service centre and so service is still up to par. So long your machines are under warranty, you will be well taken care of. You will still be well taken care of if your machine is out of warranty and needs servicing so long you think it is worth the money to be paid.

Nevertheless, I am now a Lenovo ThinkPad user and still happy to be one.

I just viewed Lenovo's roadmap for ThinkPad this year... It seems Lenovo has decided to branch out more consumer-like thinkpad like E series and Edge series with more variety. Classic thinkpads are still there but I don't know what they are going to do next. I have a strong feeling that they are shifting their focus toward consumer base and slowly change the legendary features such as the traditional keyboard to island style keyboard to all of the thinkpad series. Hope Lenovo won't go toward any silly decision which will turn all the loyal customers down. :s11:

Perhaps I should consider buying the current thkpad for its keyboard. Will have make do with SB istead of IB. Not much diff, I suppose.

It is still a rumour about changing the thinkpad keyboard to the new island style keyboard. I'll just hold on till the new IB thinkpads come out and then make the decision.

May be this is due to Think pad is a trade mark of IBM. So finally they have to drop this else they have to continue to pay for the trade mark.

Basically, you will notice they use similar hardware. But you pay much more just because it has a name call Think pad plus 3 years warranty.
