It is still a rumour about changing the thinkpad keyboard to the new island style keyboard. I'll just hold on till the new IB thinkpads come out and then make the decision.

i've been following the thread about upcoming models, at notebookreview forums.
there's more information now (compared to earlier rumours), and it appears that some of the models will be losing the traditional thinkpad keyboard to make way for chiclets.

maybe you'll get used to them. gazillions of chiclet users cant be wrong right??

Yup, same here, following the thread over there too.

My wife has a Lenovo U260 with the chiclet keyboard and I hate it, as well as the MacBook Pro that my brother has.

I know that chiclet keyboards are out there because of its popularity from Macs but thinkpad's famous keyboard has been a staple of thinkpads for the past 20years! You don't change something as iconic as that without creating a huge hooha.

I pray that the next generation of X-series will keep the iconic keyboard.

I just viewed Lenovo's roadmap for ThinkPad this year... It seems Lenovo has decided to branch out more consumer-like thinkpad like E series and Edge series with more variety. Classic thinkpads are still there but I don't know what they are going to do next. I have a strong feeling that they are shifting their focus toward consumer base and slowly change the legendary features such as the traditional keyboard to island style keyboard to all of the thinkpad series. Hope Lenovo won't go toward any silly decision which will turn all the loyal customers down.

They might shift it to be more consumer oriented (eg. chicket keyboards etc.). Hard to say until they give the full details.

I believe it is a matter of time they will shift to the chicket keyboards. Those are like the trend now. But unfortunately, those keyboards are hardly nice to type on.

But then again, once you get used to it, you might not want to get back to the Thinkpad keyboard.

Well, if it becomes a standard to have chiclet keyboards, then we, as consumers, will be forced to use them. Don't have to like it but will have to get used to it.

Yes I echo Hummingbird0209's point, you know a ThinkPad fan always want to have their entire household using a ThinkPad and that was how I ended up with an Edge (E220s) for my wife. And I was so impressed at how light it is?? Yes ThinkPad fans will only appreciate how heavy the machines are? Well to each his own but shall I say Edge is not even a feminine version of a ThinkPad?

yea it was my dream last time. I used to think to replace all computer machines into think series =P

By the way there are two types of Edge series, right? I remember there is a standard version which is quite bulky and there is a premium version with chrome bezel at the side.

And in my opinion Lenovo should focus to improve on the consumer line Idea-series, which looks like as if it is made of cheap plastics and materials. But surprisingly a lot of good comment on its build quality despite of the cheap look. I would not be glad to see think series will eventually merge with idea series.

The Ideapads series are not that bad for the Y and Z series honestly. They are quite nicely build though not as good or solid as the Thinkpads.

Yes, they will still remember and have some business friendly feature to distinguish themselves from their Idea series I think. Things like the trademark all black or majority black and matt screen will still be around I believe. But what we cannot avoid is, they will definitely move a little with times as business users will also have a change in their liking and preference of how their laptops should look.

Notebook PC is cheap now a day, and technology change almost every 6 to 8 months. So it make no sense to have a machine double the price vs you shorten the useful life spend by half and do a hardware refresh quicker.

The end user will be most happy if they can have a new and faster notebook quicker anyway.

Recovery CD

If you still have the recovery partition. You can create the CD from it

I have a T40 (2373-8CA) that did not come with a recovery CD and I had spanked the hard disk, which has the Windows XP pre-loaded partition. Then I got a spare working hard disk to work on but with the CD, I sought to work with a Linux temporarily. So far, I didn't like Ubuntu so I decided to revert to Windows. It also due to the need to learn new software that are used on Windows only as most work requires it. Could you do me a favour to burn a copy of this recovery partition if possible?
