I gotten the BP3. Is best only if you can mount it on SATA disk carrier. Otherwise max speed is SATAII plus some discount.
See this link:
T420 + mSata + UEFI ONLY = 20 SEC BOOT - Page 10
guys, i presume both of you are running an msata together with your hdd.
any pictorial or video guide?
have you looked at your thinkpad user manual? their drawings and instructions are not bad.
edit: how did you guys ship to Singapore? CGW? vpost?
i realised cannot..is it possible to put the samsung 830 ssd and the hdd together in x220 without modifying the ssd or hdd?
Yes you can install both.can i install samsung 830 ssd and a msata ssd in x220? anyone try that before? lol
You bought it from US?I also just got my x230.
Should I upgrade to the mSATA 128GB? anyone here already installed for x230?
the keyboard imo is quite good. solid feel. too bad i didn't got the IPS panel version.

Yes, most of the laptops, the mSATA slot only give you up to SATAII performance. The T420 is the same as X220, only SATAII performance.
Yes, you can. IMO, having a SSD and a mSATA SSD together is overkill. The SSD will be faster than the mSATA SSD because it is SATA3 compared to the mSATA SSD which is SATA2. The mSATA SSD will be more expensive than a normal SSD ($:GB ratio), which you will also have to find a 7mm SSD.
My new X230 is a i5 and it seems responsive enough but like my X220, adding a mSATA SSD gives me the best of both worlds, speed from the mSATA SSD and space from the 320GB HDD.
After using both the X220 and X230, I still prefer the X220's keyboard. Why?
1. No PageBack/Forward keys beside the arrow keys.
2. Function keys are now white instead of blue
3. Esc & Delete keys so small
4. Miss my blue Enter key
5. I use the Light function often, so on the X220 keyboard, I instinctively know that to turn it on, the keys are at both ends of the keyboard.
6. The Thinkvantage key is now black and does NOTHING!! It does not launch the Toolbox (or in the X230's case, the LSC).
7. Trackpoint middle key is slightly less protruding.
8. There is no BT icon besides the wifi icon on the screen!! So the only way to check is via Windows!
Redeeming factor of the X230?
1. Slightly faster CPU / HD4000 > Can play D3 at slightly higher graphic options
2. More USB 3.0 ports. Standard for i5 instead of the X220 which they only have USB 3.0 port for the i7.
Short summary of my comparison of my X220 and X230.![]()
On the mSATA yes, it is SATA2. On the main HDD bay, it is SATA3.Huh? X220 and T420 only SATA2?
My made in China Crucial M4 128gb SSD registered 7.9 on my T420.
I'll be receiving my X220 next week. Gonna install my Crucial M4 made in Singapore 256gb SSD and see what's the index.
I thought SATA2 will not give 7.9 on Windows index.
By the way, my X220 is a IPS panel. Waiting eagerly for it...
Nope. I think they are different. Is T420 and T520 using the same battery?
Thanks.
Thanks for the review. I feel so relieved. Just bought a T420 and X220 because of the keyboard. Going to order a T520 to chope the legendary keyboard. Perhaps I should get a W520 instead. Hee!
If you already have a SATA hdd in your T420, can you add in another SSD?
Nope. I think they are different.
Is T420 and T520 using the same battery?
Thanks.
