Speed with T400

Hi,

I am using T400 with Windows 7 Pro, 4GB RAM, Intel Core 2 Duo T9400 / 2.53 GHz. I am also using Singnet 150Mbps Fiber Optic broadband with Wifi.

I have experienced speed problem when I run multiple program especially reading online newspaper such as "Todays" in PDF online mode. I've also realized the DRAM usage is very high from the TaskManager->Performance showing 3.72GB usage.

My question is: what is the cause of speed due to network or DRAM? if it is due to DRAM, can I simply buy another 4GB DRAM to upgrade it to 8GB?

Regards,
Toyogo

@toyogo - yup, upgradable to 8gb. Are you using Acrobat reader? If so try another reader such as Foxit which is free and less memory intensive.

@intelflash - Maybe you can try, but don't create a user account. The first time I bought without creating an account and it went through. The second time I tried, but this time I created a user account and it got cancelled. So perhaps give it a shot and keep us posted

Yeah seems like it only has Lenovo checkout, tempted to buy from the outlet too. Wonder if the warranty is also covered international for those bought from outlet.

Hi,

Got some questions to ask the experts here. Is it difficult to get a WWAN card for a X201 ThinkPad in Singapore? What WWAN card is good (Gobi 2000)? Will the WWAN card work with the mobile broadband sim card from Starhub/M1/SingTel?

Thank you.

@juninhao/eLeMeNtaLFuSiOn : Outlet sets only come with 1 year limited warranty in US, no IWS and cannot be extended. Buying one also means that you need to use an Amex card which is a hassle as I have mentioned some posts earlier.

@Calvin : You need to double check if your ThinkPad is WWAN ready, meaning the antenna is built into the LCD panel, else you have to install it yourself which is not for the faint-hearted. Can contact your supplier to find out or you can check here with your serial number and machine type. If you see an item WAN_UPGRADABLE - Mobile Broadband Upgradable in the system configuration, then your set comes with the antenna. The Gobi card can be purchased off eBay, just make sure its compatible with your ThinkPad and is unlocked.

@hysteriakx: The X1 carbon is about 5.8 pounds or 2.6kg, so you can do the math based on your forwarder. The final cost depends on the shipping cost, declared value, GST, insurance, fuel surcharge.

Thanks for the insight, bro.
After a check on the serial number it says WWAN option, did not stated WWAN ready. That means no antenna?

Just give it a shot. Don't create a user account at the site. Just select what you want then use Amazon checkout. If you don't receive a cancellation email after a few days then it's likely it went through. You can check the order status as stated in the email to verify too. Good luck and keep us posted

Between T430U and X230, overall which is better ? :s22:

This is one of the T430u reviews that I've read that pretty much sealed my decision...hope it helps

The main difference is the screen 14" vs 12.5" and the gfx card - nVidia vs Intel HD 4000. If you intend to work on graphic intensive apps or 3D games, then the
T430u would perform better. Though the X230 has more options for expansion (ie Series 3 Ultrabase or slice-battery). T430u has none...oh and also the T430u has the new island-style keyboard (not spill proof)

I using X230 with windows 8....

I think while setting up the laptop, i disabled the camera or disallowed something about the camera.

Now when i click on the cam app, it shows a camera icon with a dash across, like no entry sign. when i click on it , there i sound of picture taken but no pic is taken.

anyone can help to solve the problem or test that the cam is working ?
