iCloud Pros & Cons

My iCloud is running out of space for my iPhone backups and that my Macbook is also running out of storage spaces for my iPhone backups (at least 20GB?!), so am considering whether to subscribe to it so that I can have a peace of mind knowing my iPhone is backup-ed somewhere.

So just wanna seek some reviews from existing iCloud users:

• How many of you subscribed to iCloud plans?
• What sizes did you subscribe to?
• What other uses do you can iCloud do for you?
• Overall, is it worth the subscription over other cloud storage like Dropbox/Google Drive?
• If you dont use iCloud, what other available free alternatives do you have?

I've subscribed to the iCloud plans reason being sometimes when I'm overseas or not using iTunes, my iPhone and iPad will automatically back up every night when it's charging and connected to Wi-Fi.

Used to subscribe to the 50GB but now upgraded to 200GB as I needed more storage for my photos. There's also the iCloud Photo Library which syncs your photos over iCloud to all of your devices and accessing to the photos would be easier.

Am using iCloud also for WhatsApp backups which is concurrently with the iPhone iCloud backups.

Using a Mac, getting the iCloud storage may be more simpler as its already integrated to the Finder and can set to enable it to automatically save your documents there.

Therefore, it's more of spending just a fee to get cloud storage for all of your Apple devices.

If you want to access these documents on Windows via iCloud, there is always iCloud.com on a browser but so far there is no way to integrate iCloud storage with Windows Explorer.

before I was using 50GB, but now upgraded to 200GB.

using it mainly for 1 phone and my main docs in mac/pc

I still use google drive free 15GB for
other docs.

flickr for additional photo sync because of 1TB free.

large files is still going to network drive.

20gb? doesn't sound right. maybe you need to do some house keeping on your mac and phone

I'm been using iCloud 200 GB account for quite a while.

Its fantastic as I travel a fair bit and have 2 iPhone and 1 iPad Pro which all backup to it. I have also around 160 GB of Photos and videos on my iCloud Photo library. Having the devices all automatically backup to the cloud each night when I charge is great. Really gives ease of mind if I loose any of my devices that the photos I took the previous day are all safe.

I have to emphasise that it is extremely important to enable 2FA when you use Cloud services. Not doing so is seriously a bad security practise and leaves a large opening for a lot of grief.

noob question about the 2FA... i have it enabled but it also shows the code on the device that i attempt to log on.. so how is that security when the so called unauthorised owner is able to see the code shown on the device itself. no doubt my other devices with my apple id is signed in will prompt but thats no use to me ?

the authorized device must be unlocked to see the code sent. if not it will just show that there is a code sent but the numbers not shown.

I was considering it last time. After I found out
Mobile Outlook doesn't recognize iCloud as a cloud storage and I put my idea off.

If not I can just attached files immediately from outlook
