Hi all, I saw this ICOCA + Haruka combo going for 4000 yen (round trip) which consists of:

2000 yen (Round trip for Haruka express)
2000 yen (Stored value of 1500 yen + 500 yen deposit)

West Japan Railway Company - ICOCA and HARUKA

Is this worth getting over the JR West Kansai 1 day pass (2000 yen) for Kansai > Kyoto and Kyoto > Kansai since we get an additional 1500 yen worth of spending value for transport/shopping?

Depends how ur itinerary is like

Initial plan was to get the JR West pass upon arrival @ KIX to use Haruka Express > Kyoto & Kyoto > KIX.

JR West pass already 2000 yen/trip. Was thinking of getting this combo (for the same price as JR West pass), and the additional 2000 yen of stored value in ICOCA card is 'free' - at least that's how I see it. :s13:

I like this ICOCA + Haruka, pay as you travel (on the subways + JRs) :zonia: , To and Fro Kansai airport is covered by Haruka

I plan to take the airport bus (2700 yen round trip) and buy the icoca card (2000 yen) separately. This means total cost of 4700 yen compared to 4000 yen for the icoca - haruku combo. Not the cheapest but the bus takes me direct to my hotel (New Hankyu) and dun have to change train at Shin-Osaka.

So depends on your plans.

Depends on where you stay. It's a no-brainer super bargain deal if you are heading to Kyoto straight from KIX coz that's within the free Haruka package. If within Osaka, the train stops only at Tennoji and Shin-Osaka Station. By comparison, the Nankai trains (which are also cheaper than the package price if you don't take the rapi:t) stop at more convenient stations (eg Namba).

Aside from this, you will have to queue at the KIX JR office to buy this, which is usually packed with people spending a long time changing JR pass and booking Shinkansen tickets.

Yes, the deal only covers unreserved seats.

Yes, you still have to pay the supplement. Use Hyperdia to get the exact price, depending on your destination.
