Till today I have no clue wtf the scholar was thinking with a bomb shelter in every home.

this HS save you from bomb fragments , not from direct hit of a 50 kg bombs.

NATO surveys show more than 90 % civilians casualty in urbanised area caused by bomb fragments.
bomb fragments can fly more than 200 meter, a 5 mm bomb fragments flying at high speed can do much harm.

I think TS is doing Singaporeans a favor by recommending more stringent checks by HDB when contracting to Chinese developers. Don't see what's wrong with that. It's responsible attitude towards safety of Singaporeans, given what has happened.

if not how they always undercut other contractors? something have to give away especially in terms of material costs. they are very skilled in making cheaper material substitutes sometimes ur regular checks simi iso cert wont even detect any compromises in the quality of construction materials used. their ability to mix 科技与狠活 is not to be underestimated

Sexpert here. NOT all buildings here are build to withstand Seismic activity levels of Japan given that SIngapore (and also Msia) are location on the main Sundaland Shelf and not at the edge.
You can opt for seismic safe houses BUT ARE U WILLING TO PAY?
The other way you can mitigate is to search for housing that are either low, or on strong bedrock.
Stay away from newly reclaimed land where the land is not given enough time to settled eg FOREST CITY

Think most are build to withstand some shock. Question is how much, where do they draw the line.

i did exactly what this desmond shum did during home renovation. i was there every day watching the contractor taking measurements and installing the furnishings. when i was a teen, i did the same thing after school going to the new house watching the contractor remove old tiles and laying new ones. i was there everyday until it was finished. same for my car repairs. i diy everything. if it needs a workshop, i go there everyday and watch them until it's done. i don't trust anybody. verify every damn thing

my home renovation contractor is a known gambler at mbs by the way

We do have alot of BTO projecte since 18 years ago built by China construction companies. The first batch was at Tiong Bahru.

In Singapore, not only our BTOs, or housing projects are done up by chinese developers. MRT line projects are also done up, along with transport infrastructure, like viaducts. You guys need to visit jurong, and see what are the huge ass projects being built there.

That said, contractor is one thing, they still need to abide by govt building regulations. Are those being verified as well?

Contract spec... Got Korea and jap as well... Singapore govt smart... Never held ramson by some contractor... Every contractor know the work scope and able to take over when shxt hit the fan..
