You should spend on quality food while you are younger, not the other way round. As you get older, you no longer enjoy as much.

Yeah I feel like I'm spending more the older I get, when I was young, I was saving much more. It's not because of inflation, but rather, I'm willing to spend more on experiences and better quality stuff which I'd avoid when I was younger.

You said this mah...So I thought budget is an issue when you are younger. Set a larger budget when you are younger for nutritious food, while in your 70s... it's about eating anything that your health allows you to eat lol.

I'm not saying, YOLO ah but...

Learn to enjoy a bit after making some cash, or splurge a bit, life is really short and will be over way before you know it.

My sister started working after O levels, trying to contribute to the family, was extremely frugal but when she had spare cash she would buy things for us. Slowly she went for degree, then went for additional diplomas, travelling, and occasionally spending on branded stuff that she likes.

Those who followed my posts 3 years ago in another 'cancer' thread, knows that when she was into her later years, we thought she had no money and we paid for treatments, food etc...

After her passing away, and executing her will, we found that she has more than enough, way more than imaginable.

If only she had used the money, go enjoy herself, pamper herself more, instead of leaving it for others... it would have benefitted her more. Not recklessly spending, but pampering herself, enjoying before leaving the world.

Don't have to YOLO but don't overdo it as well, life is really short, enjoy yourself, spend on yourself and save up where necessary.

Life is short... don't work so hard to leave it for others.

That's true, but it's hard to do that when you have so many more big ticket expenses like housing, reno, wedding etc when you're younger. You also earn less.

Agree, It's about deciding what to spend based on limited resources.

Relatively speaking, quality food still cost less than big ticket items so just by scaling down the more 'luxurious' goods, it's more manageable.

I agree….but growing up in a frugal family, I still buy cheap vegetables rather than organic vegetables…:(

Cheap vegetables are ok. It's more like having more options as opposed to chicken rice add rice....
