My previous company, the HR dept is big and on a totally separate floor from rest of building, so not connected to other employees.
There are lots of fresh grad sinkies in HR , but when I talk to them, I realise they don’t interact with the rest of employees so they don’t even know the composition of the workforce. This is not the first company that I have encountered where HR sits on a separate floor and have no idea what is happening in the rest of company.
The only time I see them is when a whole bunch of them enter the common lift to go for lunch.
But the head of HR is a new sinkie who came in via the intra company transfer program. She makes all the hiring decisions, and it is interesting how easy it is for foreigners with EPs to come to Singapore. If you look at the office, you would have thought we are in another country.
