Hi Gaghiel

If your amplifier has an RCA and 3.5mm input, we would pick the RCA input due to multiple reasons for example better and more stable connection of the connector and many other :s8:

The tricky part is some amplifier might show varying sonic qualities between different input and cable used due to their circuit design, we would encourage you to try both and see which one sounds better on your system :D

if you are using the Micro iDAC (not iDSD) you don't have to worry about the volume control position as the RCA line out volume are fixed, if you are not using the headphone just turn the volume control to the minimal position

hope this helps

thanks. the seller lost the stock RCA cable, gonna buy one to test out.

anyway, found one FAQ from iFi support - http://support.ifi-audio.com/kb/faq.php?id=42. It seems it might be better to use one connection at a time, or are they trying to say do not turn on both iDAC and Amp volume at the same time? using open back headphone, at least i won't do that.

iDSD Micro: Best of ALL products in 2014 for HifiClube.Net by José Victor Henriques!

10570287_808602732508804_547498667934362772_n_zpsiyhpn2b4.jpg

José Victor Henriques is one the most well-established and “longest-serving” reviewers in the audio industry in Portugal and possibly Europe having reviewed high-end gear for over 20 years. To say we are honoured to see the micro iDSD win in such an exalted field would be an understatement!

For Mr Henriques to bestow this very prestigious award to the micro iDSD meant it saw off a raft very strong challengers such as: Dan D'Agostino integrated , the McIntosh MC275 50Th Anniversary or ARC GS150, Devialet,Trinity DAC , Audeze LCD3,Oppo PM-1 ,Halcro or Constellation , Marten Supreme II or Wilson XLF,Raidho , Vivid Giya , Estelon Extreme , Sonus Faber Ex3ma,The Zero Avantgarde, Magico Ultimate III

We absolutely over the moon!

Thanks José, HiFiClube and SmartAudio (iFi:portugal)!

Hi Gaghiel

We have check with Ifi and confirmed it's always better to engage and use one output at a time (either RCA line out or 3.5mm headphone out) as using both output at the same time will affect the sound quality

USA Amazon customer says “ifi Micro iDSD Rocks $50k SOUND!!!!
Sorry audiophiles your investment is now obsolete!”

“Perfect!! Dont waste your money on other equipment. This is crowd source designed. It means humans who like other humans, built it for humans to enjoy! I could not order it from amazon, they were out of stock. But either way its awesome! it does DSD 64,128,256,and 512 also does PCM all the way to 768!. It is very advanced and will last for years to come. You can use it with your amplifier or walk around with it connected to your phone lookin like an Alien!! I am glad i discovered iFi Company. I am waiting for the Pro model coming out in may. The sound this device puts out rivals setups of $10k to $50k. Why?? How??? can this be… Simple. Technology evolves and iFi company loves to use cutting edge chips in their engineering. This model uses a Burr Brown Double dac chip design. In my opinion it blows away the ess sabre dac. It is the most advanced device on the market for Hi Resolution music. Unless you want to drop $50k up to you for braggin right on golf course! But for $500 very very smart! Thank you ifi Company, you won a customer for life!”

Thank you Amazon customer and iFi fan!

DM of Computeraudiophile gives the iDSD Nano the first Best-buy!

“At the beginning of the year, it took me a while to get my hands on this little guy (sold out everywhere)…The sound is very natural and balanced, with enough speed and power and also a hint of sweetness in the vocal. It engages people and just keep pumping out emotional content over and over again. This now seems like a house sound of iFi now, both of their products (iDAC and iDSD) sounded very musical. It just made me want to keep on listening….Overall I will rate the nano iDSD 75 out of 100. But consider the difference in price, USD189 vs. USD699 and USD600, the nano iDSD also has DXD/DSD support for iPhones, it is a no-brainer recommendation. In fact, I will name it the first Best-Buy in this ongoing review”

Thanks DM and Computeraudiophile.com!

Retro%2050_zpsbm9dxz9w.jpg

The ifi Retro Stereo 50 “all in one” sound system is not only a speaker system but also a vacuum tube headphone and speaker amplifier, digital to analog converter and phono pre-amplifier. All in one neat and sweet-looking solid Bamboo-constructed console. Retro 50 sound system will connect to virtually any music source from computer, smartphone, CD player or even a turntable.

50%20Amp_zpshrdzrjrk.jpg

iFi Retro Stereo 50 Vacuum-Tube Integrated Amplifier an Audiophile Dream Classic design and cutting-edge technology form an irresistible match on par with a lavish Hollywood romance both inside and outside the seductive Retro Stereo 50 vacuum-tube integrated amplifier. Loaded with four EL84X and two ECF82 tubes as well as advanced digital circuitry and a Burr-Brown DAC, the all-in-one Retro Stereo 50 looks like it comes out of hi-fi's golden age but sounds both timeless and modern thanks to cutting-edge features that make it thoroughly contemporary. Compatible with Bluetooth aptX streaming, high-resolution digital, vinyl, and basically every source in between, Stereo 50 primarily runs in Class A mode – meaning savory tonality and natural realism are always at hand no matter what music you play. And you can pick practically anything as your source. Stereo 50 is also equipped with iFi's 3D Holographic and XBass technologies, turning its built-in headphone amplifier into the equivalent of a private retreat.

LS3.5 Bookshelf Speakers Modeled on Legendary LS3/5A Monitors

Inspired by the legendary Rogers LS3/5A monitors, and accompanied by both cream and black grilles, the iFi Retro LS3.5 loudspeaker simultaneously honors and improves upon the timeless hi-fi speaker. Featuring in-house-designed 115mm paper-cone wideband drivers, a proprietary 28mm silk-dome tweeter, open-cell acoustic foam, maximum surface-contact gold-plated binding posts, and perfect tweeter-driver time alignment, Retro LS3.5 produces music with phenomenal accuracy, coherency, detail, dynamics, and naturalism. Longtime fans of the LS3/5A will be amazed. Listeners that have only heard about the acclaimed British speaker will immediately know they are in the presence of a truly special musical instrument. A solid bamboo cabinet and multi-chamber Voigt design chamber with tuned enclosure complement the proprietary tweeter and driver in reproducing music with breathtaking midrange, silky smooth treble, and taut bass all the while contributing no coloration of their own. Beautiful-looking and gorgeous-sounding, Retro LS3.5 triumphantly brings hi-fi's golden era into the present.

LS3.5%20open_zpsrsuro116.jpg

Bamboo Cabinet, Soft-Dome Tweeter, and Paper-Cone Driver Put Speakers Over the Top LS3.5's non-resonant bamboo cabinet is both environmentally friendly and sonically uncompromising. The cabinet is three times stronger than wood (yet only half its weight), perfectly time-aligned, has internal acoustic technology. The internal structure is finely tuned (sound bar/braces) via musical instrument manufacturing methods. All this, coupled with the Stereo 50's XBass and 3D Holographic for speakers' technologies, creates sonic synergy that is simply out of this world. The 28mm tweeter is horn-loaded and uses a neodymium magnet. The silk dome combines a lack of resonances at the top of the operating range (as found on metal domes) with excellent dynamics in band. The small neodymium magnet structure shifts cavity resonances outside the audible range. iFi's paper-cone 115mm wideband driver performs more akin to a full-range driver. Stamped steel baskets can dissipate energy much faster than cast types. Modern finite element modelling and modern materials have improved the driver in many areas (especially efficiency and bandwidth). The wideband driver rolls off after 8kHz. And it reaches down to 59Hz (with correct placement). LS3.5 has a coherency that is based upon the simple fact from the outset, the tweeter and driver are perfectly time-aligned. This means sound waves from both units arrive at ear of the listener at the same time (as opposed to at different times).

AudioBlast waxes over the Turbo-charged micro iDSD!

“This is one of the few companies I will have to run to catch up with!….
In fact, my friend and I both felt that whatever deficiencies might lay in
the LCD-3 in comparison we did not fault the iFi iDSD. The little iFi unit
drove the magnetic planar cans with aplomb, at a quality level I would judge
plenty acceptable for most listeners.”

High Fidelity delivers a stonking review about the iFi Retro!

We are thrilled to bits to read this in-depth review of the latest iFi Audio product line, Retro (Stereo 50 & LS3.5).
“It’s hard to take eyes off new iFi products….British company named its new line iFi Retro, and the design is simply great, eye-catching…Stereo 50 delivers a very good performance….The system under review was like a meteor that entered Earth’s atmosphere with a loud boom and filled the sky with light. You should really give it a listen….This system does a good job in everything it does. Both, together with LS3.5, and as a separate amplifier/DAC iFi provides its user with a lot of fun and joy. Whatever you think you need from your system – iFi’s got it.

Fran from USA impressed by the iDSD Micro!

Another customer submits their impressions and a snap of their set up using iFi products!
“Did I tell you lately how much I love ifi. The micro idsd rocks. The Forza usb adapter worked out well so my usb input line is first rate. I know I’ll get sucked in to that idsd pro. That might be my end game dac for this system….My system sounds so good when I close my eyes, it disappears. Sitting in the middle of it all is that little idsd micro. It is brilliant. Most people will never know how really great this thing can be. I am so impressed with its dac in direct mode.
I use JRMC/Jplay/Audiophile Optimizer. So my chain out of the PC is like this:
Paul Pang usb card V4/ Paul Pang usb cable/ iusb power/ gemini cable/ Forza adapter/ idsd micro
then to either:
Woo WA2 tube amp/ Beyerdynamic T1 headphone
Woo WA2 preamp out/ Exposure 2010S2 Integrated amp/ Monitor Audio GX100 speakers”

Thanks Fran!

Hi Stereo,

I have a defective nano after 6mths(battery doesn't auto charge by USB when battery gone flat)

Do I go back to your shop for servicing?
how long is the lead time to collect the unit?

Have a cowon j3 and westone 4r. Thinking what can I do with them if I get the idsd micro?

Any advise?

Sent from Mars using GAGT

Hi Austy

The Cowon J3 doesn't have a dedicated line-output nor does it support a digital output, the J3 only has a 3.5mm headphone output, so although you could use the iDSD micro with the J3 the sound might not be optimal as you will be doing "double amping" by connecting J3's headphone out to iDSD micro 3.5mm input, furthermore you won't be utilizing iDSD micro DAC section :(

but as always, you could come down our store and try it for yourself and see if it works for you:D

if you are looking to improve the sound, you can look into upgrading your audio player as well, you could look at DAP like the:

- iBasso DX90
- Fiio X5
- A&K AK100 II

we have those for auditioning as well :s13:

I have UM Merlins and I'm using iPhone

How does the iDSD micro pair up with them?

Hi Beary2teddy

Which iPhone are you using?

We have tried iPhone 6/ 5s > apple CCK > iDSD micro > UM merlins universals with great results, much better than driving them directly from the iPhones :s8:

We tried them with different genre and it's immediately obvious that the sound is cleaner, richer and more dynamic with the iDSD micro, bass that used to sound loose on the iPhone becomes firmer with better definition with iDSD micro, we also liked how the sound stage expanded with improved details and instrument separation while giving voices better realism =:p

We audition with the Xbass and 3D on default setting and the power mode on "Eco".

We welcome you to any of our stores to audition them by yourself

iDSD Nano: One of the best priced DAC’s says Fernando!

“The way we listen to music has changed a lot in recent years….Now we can take us anywhere and demand higher quality and improved sound where we are….the nano IDSD sounds with excellent quality and absolutely swallows everything that we have put forward (musically speaking) and plays with a very good fidelity….In any case the audio is really good, balanced, with good spatiality with sharp detail….Ultimately the iFi nano IDSD is one of the best DAC with a price “for everyone” I’ve had, if not the best”

The iTube works it’s magic on Jorge Gonçalves!

You may not know but Jorge Gonçalves is the President of EISA(European Imaging and Sound Association)

“The iTube does not use DSP processing and is limited to working the signal in the analog domain, making it passed through RLC passive filters that introduce subtle phase rotations at certain frequencies and help you find the instruments that emit frequency values for low…..the iTube could add a little more emotional involvement at their hearing. Other styles of music where the inclusion of iTube made it very enjoyable musical performance were chamber music and jazz, especially in small groups and in recordings made live…..I did a quick experience of combination of iTube with the headphone amplifier Pioneer U-05-S, getting it again inserted between the CD player and the U-05-S, and using headphones like the Sennheiser HD700. And there is no doubt that the concept of binaural Blumlein works almost perfectly with headphones, even if the original recording was made in a conventional manner and not through binaural technology. The sound as coming out almost completely out of the head, there being suspended around us with greater individualization of each performing positioning within the assembly.”

“Conclusion: With the large attractive of non-introduction of overly evident colorations on the music that we hear, the iTube can introduce a slight ‘ flavouring ‘ on reproduction, which translates into a superior spatiality and which introduces some interesting clues in the exact location of the instruments of percussion.”
