You need to cover your own ass through some official means that you can legally absent yourself.

Just turn up, tell them you're not interested. That way you are officially present and straight away drop out of selection.

I had the VA as well like years back, I went for it, told them I LOVE commandos and they rejected me lol...

at the time I was young and naive so I thought Commandos was equivalent to Special Forces in the United States. I passed all the fitness tests they gave me... in the end they took those who said they didn't wanna go ( some guy took the result slips and called out names of those who got accepted and laughed at them as we were all walking out of camp ), im damn lucky

In the end I got navy

For those that don't know what they do there for the VA, basically you go there, do about 200+ MCQ to test IQ and aptitude (similar to the one they do at CMPB, but on paper), try the canteen food, do some situp pushup pullup and some balancing exercises, then interview. Interview is just ask you whether want or dowan, but apparently I don't think the CO cares what you want because he circle mildly interested on his feedback form even though I say dowan.

Be prepared to do alot of waiting. Probably waited 3+ hours out of the 8 hours I was there for.

If it helps, at least in the commando you get to do something different from most other vocations, and your pay is also a lil bit higher than the rest (should be same amount as NDU if you kena that lah)
