IGPU dead?

Troubleshooting my friends old computer and ran across an interesting problem. Wondering what you guys think.

He has been using a i3 2120 with a z77 itx motherboard for around 4 years without a graphic card. But few weeks ago suddenly no display. Fans still run mobo leds still on.

first thing i did was install a gpu. straight away i managed to boot into bios.
changed bios settings to default(bios has no igpu setting) and tried to boot from igpu again. still no display.

changed cpu. repeated the above. gets display with gpu installed and black screen without gpu.

plugged in motherboard speaker. 1 long beep and 3 short beeps that implies a graphic error when no gpu installed.

Basically long story short, is it possible that a motherboard onboard graphic dies? and everything else functions just fine?

IGPU feature is now integrated onto the CPU itself

U might want to take the CPU out and try it on another mobo just to be sure it is not the motherboard HDMI port that is faulty...

yes. i have had dead igpu twice

The i3 2120 came out in early 2011. So, it's about 9 years old.

Definitely possible that the IGPU is dead.

beep codes are different for award bios & ami bios, and i think intel z77 are more likely to be based on ami bios - can u check?
if ami then 1 long 3 short beeps = conventional / extended memory failure

but then strange why it posts with graphics card & fails with only igpu... maybe more mem is "tested" during post in order to delegate to igpu?
A long shot, try take out rams & clean the rams' golden contact regions by rubbing w soft pencil eraser
