We have been receiving quite a few request for us to bring in customized gaming laptops from illegear in Malaysia.

Their models and website:
ILLEGEAR

Their laptops are mainly OEM for CLEVO,
See: CLEVO OEM LAPTOPS
(similar to Aftershock).
They offer laptops with full flexibility for customization and their brand have been very popular in the Malaysia market for around 2 years.

We are hoping to bring in CLEVO OEMs permanently to the community here will proper long term services. (Our repair arm - Laptop General Hospital is independent, and thus do not require the sales income to support warranties). Previous attempts by startups such as SGCUBEHUB and MUCRO had their business wind up after 2 years, leaving many buyers in lurch, without any proper servicing plans.

Please help us to poll and decide whether to offer this gaming brand from illegear long term to our local community. :)

I think its pretty good.. Illegear is quite well know in malaysia. The consumer would have more variety to choose from.

I'm going to vote "depends on pricing" since I suppose they aren't really offering anything unique or highly differentiated.

Voted on "depends on pricing". Market already very saturated with "luxury" brands like alienware, msi, asus le.
So if bring it prices very high, hitting late 2ks and abv, i see no point coz at that prices range is fight with alienware and msi those luxury brands le.

Noted with thanks. :)
We will make the decision by Jan 2013.
So please give us your most honest opinions on whether to bring illegear in.

Pricing is main concern.. and of course the services, warranty, upgrade options (I assumed)

Thanks for the feedback. :)

For service and upgrade, not to worry. We have our own service centres to do so.

Cheers!

Why not just bring in Sager models yourselves then? Or even deal direct with Clevo?

We might consider that. :)
But not for the time being, the resources and time require to properly built up a new brands is quite a lot.
Moreover, looking at the current prices and business model of Aftershock, the profits might not be enough to sustain a long term business. Thus we will rather do another brand and not throw in so much resources.

Cheers!

More competition is always good for us. However, I am a little on the fence for this one because their brand has only been in the market for a month. I am pretty sure they have only distributed other brands before that.

While browsing their facebook christmas deals, there was a post complaining about the quality of their service. h ttp://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2638175 So my vote goes to wait and see since they have only launched their Illegear laptops last month and there were previous complaints about their service.

If PC Dreams is helping to handle the customer service support here in Singapore as they mentioned in the first post, I think it should be fine anyway.

Dear all,

Please kindly keep this thread to the objective whether you will like us to bring in a new brand. Let us do the worrying on the servicing if we were to bring it in. :)

illegear is in the market for a year+. That is a fact. Whether they are better or not than Aftershock is not the objective of discussion of this thread. Hope everyone can keep to the objective.

To fierypower,
Thanks for your vote. Appreciate your feedback. :)
Just one note: It is not possible even for the best companies have complaints. Which company in the world do not have a single complain throughout their business? Thus it might not be fair to judge the service of a company through 1 single complain.

However, I totally agreed with you in one point though. Will the company be long enough to survive through to service the people? It does not matter if you have the best services, prices and warranty now. What matters is whether this company will be still in operating during or after the warranty period. Some unscrupulous dealers can easily commit to 3 yrs warranty, but what if they close down in a year?

This is the issue to all new startups. And we do have a good lesson and experience learnt for those stranded buyers who bought from SGcubehub and Murco last time. They are promised warranties and upgrades which are eventually not fulfilled as the companies closed down. The same can happen to ANY new startups.

What PC Dreams is hoping to do is to bring in customize gaming to the local gaming scene for long term. Our foundation in retail and services are more than capable to achieve this.
What is left is for PC Dreams to evaluate the demand and the viability of this business. :)

So please kindly keep this thread to showing your interest of PC Dreams selling Illegear (Clevo) laptops, and not debating on whether illegear or other brands are better. :)

Cheers!

thx PC Dreams for doing this, in my opinion, you should be objective yourself in your statement(s).
