iMac (Mid 2011) keep having spinning beachball

Hi everyone,

For the past few weeks my iMac keep loading really slowly when i click on folder or safari etc. Basically everything.

I installed MemoryClean and even bought DiskDoctor!

My available space is like 135GB.

Is it hardware issue? Should i upgrade etc?

My specs are:
21.5inch, Mid 2011

Processor 2.5GHz Intel Core i5
Memory: 8GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics: AMD Radeon HD 6750M 512MB
Software: MAC OS X Lion 10.7.5

There is a good chance your harddisk is failing you.

Don't think the spec above should give you frequent spinning ball.

Sigh… do you have any idea how to check the "life" of the harddisk?

Use diskutil, do a full verification. see if you can identify any issues.

I would do a disk check mentioned by davidktw n also install smartmontools to check e hdd smart attributes.

smartmontools can be installed using homebrew then run e following command:

show disk health
smartctl -H /dev/yourhdd

list all smart attributes
smartctl -A /dev/yourhdd

Go to apple website, key in ur imac serial model and see if urs is affected by the imac hard disk failure thing.. If it is, backup everything then send ur imac in to get a free hard disk replacement.

My 2011 imac is affected by it. And i got it replaced for free. But my scenario was bad. It just died without any warning. Everything was wiped out. At least, u still have warning signs...

haiz. sad! My iMac not affected by it.
But I'm quite sure i bought before July 2011..

I did a "Verify Disk" and it says everything its ok.

Under Log, Spinup time is 0000000000D48

Is home-brew the terminal?

yup. homebrew is 1 of e more recent package mgr for OSX.
u need to install frm e terminal

Mostly like harddisk going kaput. My MacBook had the same problem, change the harddisk (at the same time upgrade it), problem solved.

sian.. supposed to upgrade my mbp and now iMac giving problems first.

Any ideas where can i get help to install the hdd on my iMac?

Can i backup everything on my time machine and just copy it back including apps like photoshop etc?

SimplyMac SG-Mac Services <-- learn and install yourself. If you don't wish to DIY, burn some cash let them do it.

you can clone them into another hard drive or ssd.
