iMac sudden shutdown

Hi, my iMac experienced sudden shutdown recently, any possible reason? Used for 5 years, warranty is gone. Thanks.

hei bro... not sure whats the model you're holding. if it's the 27" series u might wanna check this out >> https://support.apple.com/en-sg/HT203787

i've got the 24" series as well, same issues as you're facing. bring it down to QCD & they mention it's power supply & graphics card issue. i skip the repairs as its not worth it.

Thanks for the info, mine is 27" series, with older version graphic card, ATI Radeon HD 5750 1024 MB. But it could be the same issue. BTW, how much is the repair cost when you checked last time?

the counter staff told me its around $300 plus onwards. he advice not worth the repairs as apple only gives 90 days warranty on the parts replaced. plus i need to fork out $128 just for diagnostic to let the engineers run a hardware check. so he ask me to save the money instead.

You may want to open it up for cleaning and thermal paste replacement, that's if you are comfortable doing it.

Guide can be found on ifixit.com.

I've done mine and also replace a SSD.
