I removed my had by myself. Now I need to find a cheap and reliable place to do data recovery.

Update: I was quoted $880 for data recovery at Accplus technology. Any place you guys can recommend?

If not just get the usb to sata cable and hook it up to your new comp and you will be able to retrieve your old data liao

I connected my hard disk to my new iMac using usb to sata cable but the hdd is not spinning and can't be detected.

You will also need a power adaptor for 3.5 inches harddisk....

yup. i did use the power adaptor with it. it doesnt work at all.

i brought my hdd to sim lim this afternoon for data recovery at idt Gallery at level 6.

was quoted $80 if manage to retrieve it. not sure if that shop is reliable.

anyone tried that shop before?

Nowaday, imac doesn't comes with disc drive anyone.

Anyone know if we can reuse the optical drive from the old version IMac and use it as an external disc drive?

Challenger never sell the USB to 3.5 Inch sata cable.......saw this on taobao....duno can use or not

Whichever USB to 3.5" SATA3 cable you buy, do make sure it supports UASP.
Otherwise, the performance will suffer.

Yes, the ODD can be used as external drive. OWC has an enclosure for it. https://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/VLSS9TOPTU2/ but it is USB 2.0.

But why do that when you can get an external drive for less than $50. I have used a buffalo brand drive on my MBP. To be on safe side bring Macbook/MBP to the shop to test. There are brands like LiteOn, Asus, Neo, if you are looking for one PM me and I can point you to the shops.

sucks. cant be switched on. then if i get to switch on, jam after a while
then cannot switched on.
replaced the hdd months ago.
then now put aside, havent go n settle. dont know how
hdd is new due to recall program for 3TB
display also new due to apple care
either power supply or motherboard i guess but not prepared to repair le
tiagong v expensive. ai.

Either way, out of warranty repair is always expensive..

Encounter a jin weird problem. My internal harddisk that was extracted from my old imac suddenly have this problem of staying connected to my new imac via sata cable. Kept disconnecting on it's own

But when I try it out on my sis macbook, it still works fine. Realli duno what happen as it has been working fine all along......
