Image file for OS

Hi Folks,

Got a question regarding image file for OS (Win 10)
I am trying to do this for my new rig.
OS Disk = SSD (Main boot up disk) Likely only 256GB in size.
Aux Disk = HDD (For data and others)

Let say I install Win 10 on my SSD. If in future, my SSD failed for some reason. I get another new SDD.
But I dun wish to re-install OS again. Possible to import the previous Win 10 image onto the new SSD?
How do I exactly go about doing this?

Or since SSD, re-install OS since will not take long.

Which one is a better method?

Well, you can have a backup image which you prep after you install everything by saving an image using Acronis or some other software..

OS installation doesn't take long, another thing to consider is that by the time your SSD fail, the OS in the image would be quite out of date compared to the whichever current build available when you swap the SSD since Microsoft releases two major builds per year now. So, I'd really only recommend if you have a lot of licensed software which will be a hassle to reinstall and reconfigure.

You can creat a backup image in the HDD using sw like Acronis.

just reinstall. image is better if u have multiple programs to install on many cpu

If you have configuration that require to be exactly the same like the one before, then use image. Otherwise, just reinstall.

Normally like my case at work, image is the best practice to backup for the vision inspection system.

Reinstall OS is always the best option, not to mention Windows 10.
Time to time there will be new version/build as well as update.
When you reinstall the OS with the new version/build, these updates will be installed as well.

Image wise also depend which software you are using.
Unless you are using Acronis paid software which are reliable than freeware.
I do clone HDD image but these are for Windows 7 PCs since for Windows 7.

After you reinstall Windows 7 the Win updates are not carried over so have to update the OS
before use.
FYI reinstall Windows 10 will not take up a lot of time but depending on PC specs.

Reinstall Win 7 will take up a lot of time due to MS update since there are lot of patches
before it can be used.

for softwares, use portable version (if available) on ur data drive...
next time if reinstall os, dun need to install all the softwares again...

Just reinstall lah, if you clone over, after so many years (assuming your SSD last you < 5 years), the number of Windows updates and Office updates can be very crazy.

Unless you periodically create and update your OS image.

Just download and standby the drivers and patches/updates and reinstall. Images are for those who need many core applications or got many pc to install the same stuff. with SSD, installing windows is a breeze now
