I noticed that my Singtel line failed to be activated for iMessage and Facetime in iPhone 6. Troubleshoot for a few days already. The Apple ID email can be selected but not the number. However, the Starhub line activates fine for both features in the same phone. I would assume it is a carrier problem since my bro's Singtel line also face the same problem in his iPhone 6.

Sign out of iMessage on all other device.
On your iPhone. Activate.
If it says activating. Wait up to a day, 24 hours.
If it still doesn't activate. Give Apple a call.

Having the same problem. I use the email instead of the number to FaceTime instead...

Tried that. Didn't work. As mentioned earlier, when I swapped in a Starhub sim, both features activated within a minutes. I have waited way longer than 24 hours and all I get is iMessage activation unsuccessful after 8-9 hours.

Some of you may not notice any functional issue if you use Apple ID because iMessage can still work with that. Except that you may notice that the phone number is grayed out and not selectable.

Guess you'll have to call up apple.

After trying to activate either iMessage or FaceTime, try not to leave that settings page immediately? During previous time, I have left that page immediately, it didn't get properly activated. Not sure if this may be issue.

happened to me before when playing with simcard and appleid.
your apple id is tied to 1 number. never put back the starhub sim.

0. use singtel sim
1. sign out from imessage and facetime.
2. set phone time to automatic. go to Settings/Phone. your singtel number should be there
3. enable location service for time zone
4. hit reset network settings.
5. reboot phone again - home + sleep for 10secs
6. disable wifi
7. activate facetime and imessage using phone number only. dont use appleid.
8. it will requesr activation to apple.
9. be patient. it will probably activate in 1 to 4 days.

just never put back the starhub sim as this confuse the apple servers

i got this step somewhere from apple KB sitem

Hi! I came across the apple support forum for this situation and i just tried and it works for me! Credits to "k3uk"

Step 1: Turn off iMessage (and FaceTime)
Step 2: Turn on the Airplane mode. Wifi will be turned OFF automatically.
Step 3: Turn ON Wifi
Step 4: Head back to Messages and turn ON iMessage
Step 5: You’ll be prompted for your Apple ID if you haven’t added it yet. (else, you don’t get any notification)
Step 6: Now, head back to Settings and turn OFF Airplane mode.
Step 7: Mostly, you’ll be shown a notification that says ‘Your carrier may charge for SMS’ – Tap on OK
Step 8: If not, go to Messages, turn OFF iMessage and then turn it ON again.
Step 9: In a short while, iMessage should get activated.
Step 10: You’ll see a greyed out number and an email ID. A little later, the number should be checked and that’s it.

Just need to off and on the iMessage. At first my number was grey out then after that it is enabled with a tick.

This works for me.

Just to update,

Had the same issue and none of the fixes worked for me. Went to singtel and changed my SIM card and now it works perfectly. Just a suggestion to others who are affected

I called singtel to inquire. The cust. svc. officer informed that Singtel is 'aware' of this issue and has 'escalated' this to Apple.

Simply put, he's saying that its Apple's fault as he mentioned this 'should-be-fixed' by Apple on their next update.

In my case, my nano SIM was from my iPhone 5 and ever since upgrading to the iPhone 6 Plus, I'm in the boat where the activation doesn't seem to be working for my mobile number.

Since @crazychaz SIM change worked, i'm wondering if yours is from your iPhone 5? or 5S? Also, only official Hello Shops can do this change and not from any exclusive retailer?
