Anyone major defects?

No :vijayadmin:

What makes you think buying from Amazon is any different from getting the same GPU locally? Only thing you are risking is how well-packaged and well-handled the parcel is during transit

Local stock: PRC factory to SG to SLS to your PC
Amazon stock: PRC factory to USA to SG to your PC

Sorry was meant to ask the warranty claiming procedure if something happens. Lemme edit my first post.

Send back to USA for all brands except EVGA in which you send back to Taiwan.

No local RMA at all, even if you want pay them. Unless you can soften their hard rock hearts.

I'm actually thinking, right now that overseas RMA in Taiwan could be a blessing, because you get to deal directly with the manufacturer instead of having to go through the distributor. Less taichi. Of course, that depends how long you can wait for an RMA but our local distributors can't guarantee you a 1 to 1 exchange anyway as it is.

Pray that your card is not dead on arrival. You waited so long and finally it reach, it doesn't work. Then send the card back to USA for rma and wait again.. Does the price justify for the entire waiting duration? You decide ba.

If anything, I'd only get EVGA if buying from Amazon currently. Usually, if distro got buffer stock, will 1-1 no questions asked. Otherwise, standard 6-8 weeks

I kena DOA fan before and got it exchanged instantly. Combine that and my distro readily offers thorough cleaning of GPU FOC, it's a nice value-add service. Comes in handy especially for my less tech-savvy friends who may have dust-clogged cards which are causing overheating/performance issues

Depends what kind of card you are looking at of course. For the cheaper cards it doesn't make sense, but if you're buying a more expensive card and up I believe the difference begins to be quite significant.

Yea I'm thinking EVGA too because shipping to there is not too expensive and doesn't take long. I don't think cleaning is a big issue, as long as you buy a card that you can disassemble the cooler to clean the inside without breaking any warranty seal. But for the less tech-savvy yes it is a definite boon. Care to tell us which distro that is?

See which brand of GPU you want. Nowadays we try getting from amazon instead.

Is not they refuse to RMA leh, most is not allowed by manufacturer to RMA products thats distributed outside of their region, like a SG(SEA) distro trying to RMA an USA distributed product manufacturer will reject if thats their rule. Then if the said distro give you replacement product alr they will be left with a useless piece of product.

eh why worry about DOA?

i rather it DOA than spoil after the 30 day period covered by amazon.

if DOA simply ship it back den u have the option of getting ur money back(lose abit on currency exchange) or wait for a new 1

so far my exp is if the item works when it comes and for gpu if u dont anyhow overclock and has okay cooling chasis.
typically can last 1.

but den i m pretty lucky when it comes to electronics. never had a faulty product since 2007 =)

you run a company distributing in singapore, you pay rentals and staff wages,
somebody buy whether from malaysia or usa want a RMA from your company when you didn't make 1 single cent out of it...even cars distributors wont do it with parralel imports

Car would be very different, because they can simply charge for the replacement parts and pro-rated services as long as the customer willing to pay for it(maybe like very rare car or parts). I dont think car manufacturers will give a sh*t whether you get your car replacement parts from the appropriate regional distributor or elsewhere as long as it fits and you are paying :D

But things like GPU the only things that can possibly fail is fan or pcb, fan replacement I imagine can also be simply charged per piece easily, but pcb repair/replacement falls under RMA which cant be easily quantified, and also I think largely due to regional pricings control/product manufacture laws in certain countries/etc, that manufacturers dont allow different regional distros to RMA products not from their region.

Anyway its not just simply about $$$ for GPU's, I spoke with a friend from a local distro before regarding typical GPU RMA procedures, and he said the reason why local distros are so anal about checking serial number/receipt to make sure its locally distributed product is because they had past incidents where they replace card for customer and then send the faulty card back to manufacturer to RMA, only to be rejected by the manufacturer because the serial indicates its not a SEA distributed product, then like I previously mentioned they're left with a piece of useless product.

If people are willing to pay I believe distros would be more than happy to offer RMA services for non-local products, but the problem's with manufacturers, not distro.
