Hi all. Any recommendation for front and rear in car camera? Preferably below 300 with installation.
Prefer reliability than fancy features. Parking mode if possible.

Quite hard to get 2CH at your Budget. Try to stretch more. Blackvue and iRoad are popular brands . Parking mode need to buy additional batt. Otherwise will kill your car batt over time .

Noted on that bro. Not a fan of blackvue.. What models are we looking at iroad? I did some search and v7 was very popular last time.

I would avoid blackvue for now as i dont think they fixed their issue of overheating.

just one example, i was using a basic blackvue (means no wifi one) with magic pro for 24 hrs monitoring for my vehicle, someone buang me, and when i tried to download the video, there is nothing in the memory card. luckily it was a straightforward case, so i claimed counterpart's insurance without needing evidence.

went online to check is because blackvue tend to overheat and end up not recording anything. another issue is also because they are small and slick but they dont have a screen, so there is really no way of knowing if it is actually recording until u check on your computer.

my mechanic friend recently intro Hella 2CH with wifi, even though its bigger, but it comes with screen and WIFI and cheaper than blackvue.

just something for you to consider

I'm a blackvue DR590W-2CH user for months and have been monitoring its overheating issue which was claimed online, and hence sharing some misconception here.

I'm not sure if the overheating issue was due to trapped heat or due to constant recording, I can say that the overheating issue did not occur to me. I parked at open air carpark with no tree for shade even, and it was still recording despite interior temperature was hot, to the point of butt pain when sitting on the seat. Hence forth, the operating temperature is definitely capable of handling that degree of temp.

secondly, power magic pro is not a backup battery to begin with, and does not allow 24hr recording even if you have a 100% charged car battery. Moreover, a daily used car with constant driving can never be 100%, probably between 60-80% charged at any one moment. Hence, the operating time for parking mode will definitely be limited to just that few hours before the car battery drops it voltage to low, just enough for you to start the car the next time.

In view of this, I installed cellink neo battery pack that powers the dash cam for more than 24hrs when fully charged. In this way, the dash cam is 24hrs on operation.

Just to note, blackvue parking mode does not record constantly. it only records when the cam detects an event, from one second before the impact to the point of selected length of recording.

As much as i agree blackvue doesn't come with a display, the blinking lights and voice instructions are good enough to monitor the operation, and the app allows the display of errors.

Depending how much the car battery cost.

For your info, Top range AGM battery cost $300+ per pcs.

Change battery every year or buy a external battery pack. Is quite clear in this case.

i think you missed the point. Unless your car battery is always at 100% of the charge level when you park, or else your dash cam can never last for at least 24hrs.

Now the question is, at what level is the car battery sustaining at? based on voltage level, mine is always hovering around 70-80% depending on drive time and electrical usage.

Without external battery, my car battery can only sustain a few hours after parking before dipping down to resting threshold just enough for cold cranking.

Like this, you change every year also no use.

Whereas an external battery has a lifespan of 2-3years. This battery will recharge rapidly and will likely to continue recharging whenever you drive. Unless you don't drive for a day, or else the dash cam can be powered for up to 24hrs before dying, which a car battery can never never achieve unless your car battery is 100% charged, and the dash cam is low powered.

AGM is only beneficial for those with start/stop engines, not beneficial for off engine longevity leh, iirc.

So summary is, for bnb jap cars, and want 24h monitoring, no need buy external battery?

I just installed an external battery yesterday as by default from agent, my new car dashcam is no longer connected to the battery for parking recording. Too many cases of people draining their batteries
